Uh, say ....

Well ...

It's like this ...

I live out in the country ....

And so ...

I don't get a lot of news ....

And what I was wondering, as a result ....

Is whether the world ended today ...

Or not .....

I guess everybody figured the world was going to end today ...

And maybe it did ...

But being out in the country as I am ....

I would be the last to know ...

And so ...

Has anybody heard, one way or the other?

Well ...

If the world did end yesterday ....

And I guess the jury is still out on that one ....

With the REPUBLICANS saying this about it ...

And the DEMOCRATS saying that, as a result of what the REPUBLICANS are saying about it ....

It sure did not have much of an impact on the weather up here where I am, anyway ....

Rain today ....

And right on into the weekend ....

And so ...

In this confused world in which we might still live ....

Assuming it didn't end yesterday ....

Some things ...

Like the rain ....

Are still constant, anyway ....

And so ...

Rain ...

Chilly ...

Damp ...

And overcast ....

Ground is heavy ....

And wet ...

And cold ...

No sun ...

Seeds are going to rot in the ground ...

When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer
"When I heard the learn'd astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause
in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars."
• Walt Whitman (1819-1892)

Another heavy day up here ...

Cool again ...

And damp ...

Raining and overcast now ....

The farmers are starting to feel the pinch ...

Can't get into their fields to plant what needs to be planted ....

Like corn ....

And when the seed don't go in ...

Well, generally ...

In that case ...

It's likely you'll have a much smaller harvest ....

Come fall ...

And so ...

And another day ....

Of gloom ....

And rain ....

And cool weather ....

But of course ....

It cannot be so ...

Since there has been no climate change ...

Here in OUR America ....

Due to anything at all ....

Since there is absolutely, positively nothing at all ...

That could possibly make the climate even want to change ...

Let alone actually do so ....

Even if it wanted to ...

Which, of course, it doesn't ....

Being content, as it is ...

To always stay as it was ....

And so ...

It probably really isn't raining at all ...

And the sun must be shining ...

Since that is what it used to do ...

Before our climate up here began to change ...

And so .....

Well, the good news is we don't have to worry about drought conditions, at least not yet....
We won't be seeing any sun until Sunday according to the weather forecasters...of course we know how accurate their predictions can be.......Too much rain throughout the summer will rot the veggies in my garden.....that happened a couple of years ago...last summer the drought destroyed my vegetable garden.....
the rabbits love all the rain....they're out in large numbers munching on all the weeds that have sprouted...positively euphoric, they are

Sara Teasdale writes of rain and war....
There Will Come Soft Rains

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;

Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.
• Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

And here ....

I have to say ...

That this concept ....

Of "climate change" ....

Totally misses a point ....

That the "climate" ....

Cannot change ....

WITHOUT TAKING THE WHOLE ECOLOGY WITH IT ...

When it goes ....

And so it is ...

Which is really a lesson right out of earth science ...

Which used to be taught ...

In what?

The eight grade?

Or the ninth?

Somewhere in there, anywhere ....

And then ...

Well ...

We grow up, of course ....

And we find out that lying is a necessary component in getting ahead ....

Here in America ...

And if you are smart ...

You won't question anything ....

NOR WILL YOU MAKE WAVES ....

About ECOLOGICAL DISRUPTION ....

OR DISTURBANCE ....

As a direct concomitant ....

Of some of man's more major disruptions ....

Of this planet ...

And so ....

They say that somehow ...

We are going to find new economic incentives in this ECOLOGICAL CHANGE that is occurring ...

As it always does, anyway ....

And up here ...

Where I am ...

Those new economic what-evers ...

Are going to be water-related ...

Like pumping out basements for a living, I guess ...

Or selling rowboats ...

Or frogman flippers ...

And snorkels ...

So you can put on your slippers ...

When you get out of bed ...

And so ....

Sometimes .....

In the face of all that we are indeed faced with ....

In this complicated world ...

That we find ourselves in today ....

We just need to remember what the rules of life really are:

You only need two tools - WD-40 and Duct Tape .....

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40 ....

If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape ......

And I guess this climate change business will have some effect on tourism, as well ....

Anyone that used to have to travel from here ...

Out to the Pacific Northwest .....

Or maybe England ....

To experience a gloomy, wet, sodden environment ....

Can just stay here now ...

And re-invest that travel money in something else ....

Maybe start up a company ...

In Bombay ...

Or Calcutta .....

Something like that, anyway .....

And I wonder where this weather is coming from these days ...

I mean, well, we don't make anything anymore ...

Over here ...

And so ....

Good Morning All from Bermuda where I have been for the past two days with my son and three of his friends. We are here for a week. I'm the babysitter so to speak. But the island is beautiful especially when it is not raining. And yesterday it poured. Today we are taking a boat tour around the island. I'm using it as an opportunity for a good photo shoot and am looking forward to that. I am not a beach rat and generally try to stay out of the sun - too many years of having the perfect California tan when I was in college - but those days are long gone. I am occasionally posting the diplomatic news in the Daily News thread in the News forum. But not doing too much. Yes, contrary to advice, I did take my laptop. Either I'm too addicted to news, or its just ingrained. But it keeps me occupied when I don't want to sit out in the hot sun - assuming we get some. Anyway, I just wanted to check in and say hi and to let you know that I haven't disappeared to another galaxy or was abducted by aliens. Back in full force soon. Hope you all have a nice weekend and an even better week. And for those in New England and up Liv's way, hope the rain ceases.

*

Howdy, Snuf ...

Good to hear your update ....

As to your travels ....

It's cold up here ....

And gray ...

No sun ....

Windy today ...

From out of the east ...

Or the north-north-east .....

Which is a strange quarter for it to be coming from ...

In my experience, anyway .....

We were trying to figure out what month today belonged to up here ....

And we figured either March ....

Or November ....

Probably the light ....

There's no sun ...

So the day seems shorter ....

And darker ....

Makes it reminiscent of March light ....

Especially when it's blowing cold ....

And fresh ....

And so ....

Gray ...

Windy ...

Cool ....

Thinking of starting a fire again ....

Get some heat in the place ...

To push out the chill ....

And it is supposed to be June ....

When I think of Mr. A.B.'s Place here ....

I think of it ....

As the whole United States ....

As if the whole of the United States ....

Were just a big room ....

With plenty of room ....

In it ....

For all of us ....

Without regard to who we are ....

Or what our origins might be ....

Or our social staus ...

Or strata .....

Because in Mr. A.B.'s Place ....

Those things ...

Are not criteria ....

For entrance .....

Into what is most definitely ....

NOT AN OLD BOY'S CLUB .....

And so .....

In here ...

In keeping with the example that I always saw Mr. A.B. setting ...

All are equal ....

All are welcome ....

And so .....

That is a good thing, really .....

Since out there ...

Mr. A.B.'s place ....

Is not always so easy ....

To find ....

As it is in here ....

And so ....

I hope A.B. stops by and reads your words about his "Corner". I know he would agree..... smile.gif

How's the weather your way, Livy? Cool here, but sunny...just the way I like it....My family and i will be on vacation at the New Jersey shore from Monday through Friday.....I stay away from my computer when I'm on vacation so I won't on line for a few days.......I'm hoping it's cool and sunny there during our stay....Hopefully, I will be able to get some decent photos if it's not raining...walk the beach, read a book, eat seafood and Boardwalk French fries and taffy and have some uninterrupted time with my husband and son.

Here's hoping that the sun shines in your area very soon....

amy, enjoy your time at the shore ...

And enjoy your family ....

And the world can take care of itself ...

For that week, anyway .....

Up here ....

We still have no sun ....

And it is quite cool ....

The growing season has taken a real hit ...

Stuff that is growing ....

Is growing slowly ...

Because the ground is still cold ...

And other stuff just never came up ....

Like corn ....

Perhaps America is about to be taught a lesson in some real humility ...

By the earth itself ...

"You people think you are so great ..."

"So almighty powerful ..."

"Rulers of the world, you say?"

"Well ..."

"And make some food appear ...."

"Because I'm not doing it for you ....."

Well ...

The clouds have lifted ....

Somewhat anyway ....

And the sun has returned .....

Which is nice to see ....

And so ....

It was a good day to take a walk today ....

Back in the woods ....

Down by the creek ....

Walked right up on a spotted fawn ....

Laying down in the leaves ....

Trying to be invisible .....

But I saw his nostrils moving ....

And that gave him away ....

And so ....

"Hey, what are you doing there, " I said ....

And he popped up and ran away ....

On little fawn legs ....

And so ...

Let us dig our gardens ...

And not be elsewhere ....

Let us take long walks in the open air ...

Let us bathe in the rivers and lakes...

Let us indulge in games...

Let us be more simple ....

Simple and true ....

In our minds above all .....

Let us be ourselves.
