Report disrespectful displays / desecration of the flag to the "flag police" at http://www.nhgazette.com/news/flag_police/

Pet peeves:

1.) Speeding around with the poor little flag attached to an antennae until it is shredded as a snotty Kleenex.

2) Hanging on a stick from somebodys porch but all tangled up in a tree limb or, worse, a TV antenna, or jammed in a closed window.

3) Big Biz displaying it while they screw over the American people.

4) The fact that most American flags are now made in China.

5) The fact that most flags are so cheezy-made that they are pink, white and turquoise.

6) Left up 24/7 at schools, libraries and public buildings in all weather (raise at 8AM, retire at 8PM except very few places designated by law or aboard commissioned vessels while underway).

Again, I believe the flag is no longer a symbol of patriotism but fringes on idolatry
ARMYDAD
YEAH gmanders777 I sent a VERY NASTY letter to the National Commander of the American Legion in regards to this letter which he sent to every Senator in Congress.

Told him that the Legion wasn't a real Veterans organization heck you don't even have to show a DD-214 as proof you were in the service when you register on-line eventhough they ask you if you served.

Worse than that they are more like a Brownshirt like organization in Germany during the 1930s. More NATIONALISTIC now than Patriotic. They are the FOOT SOLDIERS OF THE NEO-CONS. The old foot Soldiers of the NEO-CONS but foot Sodiers none the less.

Don't think so JUST READ THE HOLIER - MORE PATRIOTIC THEN THOU LETTER BELOW.

American Legion to Congress: “Heed the Message”

INDIANAPOLIS, November 04, 2004 - In a strongly-worded message to the leadership of the U.S. Senate, the leader of the nation’s largest wartime veterans organization admonished the Senate that American voters have sent a loud and clear message: values are important.

American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus urged Senators Frist and Daschle to “heed the voice of the people” and bring SJR 4, the flag protection amendment, to a vote in the last session of the 108th Congress.

Cadmus said. “On Nov. 2, voters across America sent a resounding signal to those who lead us in Washington: Do not ever forget that we are a people who cherish values – ignore them at your own risk.”

“On behalf of the 2.7 million members of The American Legion, I ask the U.S. Senate to begin the next four years by listening to your constituents, cast aside partisanship and pass this measure when your return on Nov. 15,” Cadmus said. “It doesn’t cost taxpayers a dime but sends the much needed message to citizens that Congress is truly listening and doing the work expected of them by their employers – the American people.”

Cadmus said he is proud of Legionnaires for actively working in their communities across the country to turn out record numbers of voters. He estimates that nearly 90 percent of the 4 million-member American Legion family, including the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion, voted Tuesday.

As part of The American Legion IMPACT 2004 campaign to register, educate, and turn out voters in the election, a national Legion Internet poll of over 2,000 active duty, National Guard, Reserve and veterans of past wars predicted that President Bush would defeat challenger Sen. John Kerry 54 to 46 percent. The poll proved to be a reliable call of the election’s outcome.

I WENT BALLISTIC!

WROTE MY TWO SENATORS AND ASKED THEM NOT TO SUPPORT THE FLAG AMENDMENT BECAUSE IT DIDN'T GO FAR ENOUGH IN PROTECTING NOR RESPECTING THE FLAG. wink.gif

THIS IS FROM THE AMERICAN LEGIONS OWN WEBSITE, AND THEY ARE JUST AS GUILTY OF DISRESPECTING THE FLAG AS ANYONE. SEE THE HIGHLIGHED PART ABOUT "ADVERTISING PURPOSES".

AND THE FLAG CODE = SECTION ON RESPECT FOR FLAG

http://www.legion.org/?section=our_flag&su...nt=flag_respect

§ 8. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

(THAT MEANS THE FLAG UP SIDE DOWN FOR YOU CIVILIANS.)

(cool.gif The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

© The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

HAVING OUR FLAG BLOWING IN THE WIND FROM A CAR OR SUV GOING AT ANYWHERE FROM 55 TO 75 MPH QUICKLY LEADS TO DISRESPECT. wink.gif

(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

(h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

THIS IS THE BIGGIE THAT ALMOST EVERY VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATION VIOLATES PLUS "EVERY" PATRIOTIC ORGANIZATION AND ANYONE WHO WANTS TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK ON THE AMERICAN FLAG. HELL EVEN THE AMERICAN LEGION BRAGS ABOUT THE NUMBER OF VIOLATIONS IT HAS TO THE ABOVE RULE IN IT'S "SUPPORT THE TROOP" CATALOG.

YOU SEE "SUPPORT THE TROOPS" IS BIG BUSINESS AND EVERYBODY WANTS IN ON THE ACTION. EVERYBODY WANTS TO PROFIT ON THE WAR ON IRAQ FOR AS LONG AS IT LASTS. wink.gif YOU SEE ARMYDAD HAS THE AMERICAN LEGION'S NUMBER. cool.gif

HOW MANY INSTANCES OF DISRESPECT FOR OLD GLORY CAN YOU COUNT ON THIS SALES PAGE? http://emblem.legion.org/AmericanLegn/dept...t=false&GiftID=

I WROTE AND TOLD MY TWO SENATORS THAT UNLESS THE AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION THE AMERICAN LEGION WANTS SENT PEOPLE TO JAIL FOR DISRESPECTING OUR OLD GLORY BY COMMERCIALIZING ON HER (WHICH IS NO DIFFERENT THAN BURNING HER), THEY WOULD BE "HYPOCRITES" TO SUPPORT IT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T GO FAR ENOUGH TO PROTECT OUR FLAG. cool.gif

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

HERE IS ANOTHER WIDESPREAD VIOLATION IN OUR SOCIETY. wink.gif

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning
ARMYDAD
OH WHILE I'M PICKING ON THE RIGHT-WING NUTS IN THE AMERICAN LEGION HALF OF THESE CLOWNS FEEL THAT THE "REPORTER" SHOULDN'T HAVE SET UP DONALD RUMSFELD IN IRAQ blink.gif

LIKE FORGET THE TROOPS!

LET'S MAKE MONEY OFF THE TROOPS WITH A CATALOG FULL OF "SUPPORT THE TROOPS," CRAP BUT TAKE UP FOR THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IF IT COMES DOWN TO SUPPORTING "THE TROOPS" OR THEIR IDOL "THE SHRUB."

GO FIGURE.

YEP - IT'S TIME FOR A DRAFT.

WE NEED TO GET QUITE A FEW OF THEIR SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION TO IRAQ AND EARN SOME OF THOSE PATRIOTIC TRINKITS THEY HOCK. wink.gif ARMYDAD.
