TAZ She sells sanctuary It's still a great song isn't it!

I can only listen to a couple at a time though, so post one or two so that the thread doesn't get archived yes? Thanks,

Tina Turner still rocks in concert! I think she is 68 years old! But she can dance the same as ever. She is sorta half Eartha Kitt and a lot of Detroit sound.

Picture from 2008 tour

Did you know Toni Basil is her assistant choreographer? I'm a big fan of Basil's choreography.

Tina's current tour playlist is not as long as I would like, but the songs are all still great. She sang Nutbush City Limits but I could have sworn everyone, including her, were really singing "NOT BUSH CITY LIMITS" clap.gif

I went with two of my oldest girlfriends, and we had seats on the floor, 20th row! clap.gif

I don't usually like the video's people make of concerts, but this is an exception because it gives you such a great idea of what her concerts are like if you've never been.

As mujch as I love Bruce --- most people sing his songs better than he does... laugh.gif

With Bruce -- you do not go for the quality of voice, but the emotion, sincerity and earnestness he projects.
graham4anything
actually, most people do NOT sing Bruce better than he does.

Most people should be shot dead or waterboarded before singing Bruce.

However, Tom Jones did the entire song BETTER than Bruce, and with a lot better emotion than Bruce did.

Same as "The Reason" by Hoobostank. Tom's version gets the nuance.

Whereas trash like say, Celine Dion mangles every single song she laid her slimy hands on, and totally does not grasp the reason behind the lyrics.

Tom's The Hitter sort of equals Paul Simon's The Boxer for effect and nuance.

Bruce never sounds like he actually lived the words. Tom's age, much like Johnny Cash's in HURT, makes the song his own.

There is a major musical difference.

Maybe on this particular song -- but live Bruce sounds like he lived every song he sings...and on his albums too -- Something in the Night, Candy's Room, Backstreets, etc.

IMHO...

There are times....Like around old friends and older family, when you just have to love em and you bite your tongue and smile. But sometimes, behind these smiling eyes, I think things different than I would say to them, I mean, they mean well and everything, but.....nice gets a bit old too.

Some of the things I thought but didn't say:

"Just because my Mother calls me "Susie Sunshine" does not mean everyone else has permission to call me that"
"YES, I could use a little "meat on my bones" but you're not going to solve that over Thanksgiving"
"NO, I'm not eating 'stuffing', who knows what you put in it!"
"Yes, I really am 45, can't you count? What are you going to do next pinch my cheek"
"NO, I did not shrink, I've always been shorter, my sisters are TALL"
"NO, I have not had any "work" done, look at my mother...I have her genes"
"NO, I do not need to get more sun, look what it's done for you"
"NO, I do not have any tattoo's or piercings...that would be my other siblings. Why ask me?"
"NO, I do not want another piece of your foul fowl, I ate it once, that's enough"
"NO. There is not a chance in hell that I'm even coming to your house if you roast waterfowl."
"NO. I did not become a crunchy granola type in California! It took a lifetime to learn to eat healthy foods"
"NO, I do not drink coffee, I drink green tea with lots of honey"
"YES, I would love a piece of pumpkin pie, but keep that fake whipped cream away from my pie"
"YES, I'll have wine"
"NO, that's not a contradiction, I pick my poisons"
"YES, I still listen to that weird music"
"Now, pass me that bottle of Wild Turkey"

So, when I've OD'ed on "NICE....where do I go....Where I always go when I'm in a foul, belligerent, obnoxious mood ...To Lydia, the queen of obnoxious and belligerence! She is the perfect compliment to my little miss sunshine niceness.

No one could possibly offend as well does, and no one is the Queen of anti-nice like she is.

Tom T. Hall is one of the greatest of greats

and finally got into the country music hall of fame this year after being in the songwriter hall of fame

No one writes details like TTH and does things on his own terms (espeially nowadays)

and is the biggest liberal Nashville has ever seen too!!!

I was sitting in my- am-meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
who else could make miami a sentence?

that's not a really sad song, but a song that has alot of truth

"friends dessert you when youre sad
women talk about themselves"

there's just old dogs and children and watermelon wine

these type of story songs, always picture who people would look like if they were a movie

It is sweet.

I do not think its sad. I think it and tears are beautiful. Sometimes what they symbolize is sad...but who knows -- they could be tears of joy -- though the song does speak of pain...

No, no, no, not one got married. It was New Year's Eve I think, and I was here, but wanted to be out dancing. Listening to Billy Idol's voice and the passion in it, that I don't think any women can resist, made me realize once again, that there is an inverse relationship between proximity and passion. It was an "anti-marriage" moment.

As for angels and tears, well...I doubt they are tears of joy, but it is a good thought, and the song is beautiful.

Enigma is haunting...just great stuff to relax to...in a dark room where the only lights are those of the stereo...and maybe the moon's reflection on a car hood...seen outside the window of your apartment...

2 days later HE died.

It's over
from the last concert ever given by Roy Orbison

In 5 days it will be 20 years since Roy Orbison left this mortal world

The following is my favorite Roy Orbison song, and one of the
Little known, from the lp that was released just as Roy was dying
Like most of Roy's hits, the music to this (produced by Jeff Lynne), was based on a famous opera aria Nessum Dorma
Still wish they would tack this onto a big movie, and this could be the #1 song it was meant to be.
Had Roy not died, this would have been the 2nd or 3rd single released from his last lp after "you got it."

A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL (and an extremely ODD official video starring Winona Ryder & Matthew Modine)
