We woke up to sticking snow this morning too
and dang if the leaves were not taken away yet...if they freeze, they won't get moved til spring now...
this wasn't in the forecast...
but it does look pretty outside

This morning about 7AM. You can smell the Red Cedars, and woodsmoke from the stoves. I love it.

I'll never miss winters but the smells (including the smoke) and feel of that kind of morning (along with the crunch of the little bit of snow and the frozen grass underfoot) are a fond memory.

Yes, you can even smell manure in the ground on that kind of morning (I have no idea why then and not other times) and all the leaves starting to compost.

That's REALLY traditional! I didn't know it was dry enough there to do that.

It used to be the preferred fuel for baking bread because the temperature could be controlled so easily using it and the reasonable burn time.

Interesting! And of course any manure not used in the stove can be used as fertilizer in the garden. Make use of what's available....practical and efficient.
