David Gregory to Moderate NBC’s “Meet the Press”

David Gregory will take over as moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

He had been a leading contender for the permanent spot since Tom Brokaw stepped in as interim moderator following Tim Russert’s tragic and sudden death in June, according to reports.

Tom Brokaw goes out big this weekend with an interview with President-elect Barack Obama.

Other candidates had included: Andrea Michell, Gwen Ifill, and Chuck Todd.

does anyone else besides me think Gregory looks like Mother Bates Skull in Psycho?

I was hoping against hope that Ted Kopell would have gotten it, especially since he left his other position rather suddenly.

Ugh.......bad news!

I was hoping for Andrea Mitchell. Oh, well. sad.gif

Interesting. I think Gregory is rather well suited for the job. Remember when he was the reporter who hounded bush back when bush still had press conferences ? Gregory did not fear throwing out follow-up questions, either. I wish him well.

To be fair, I don't dislike Gregory -- I just like Andrea more and had hoped she'd be the choice since Russert was pretty much her mentor. I'm sure he'll do quite well on MTP.

Chuck Todd would have been my choice. Gregory has been blah (IMO) on his afternoon show that airs right after the initial broadcast of Hardball, at least in my area.

Andrea Mitchell's hour at 11a-12 is fine, but I am always wondering how much filtering to her thinking is induced by Greenspan. The pillow talk problem - which we will have in spades with HC at SOS.

The HC selection is more troubling to me than who is going to emcee MTP.

Chuck Todd is underutilized, maybe he can have better luck if he leaves MSNBC, I do notice they broaden some usage of him, near the end of the campaign season.

Let's hope Gregory changes the resident panel guests more frequently and covers a lot more of the political spectrum than in the past.

I'm with you, lenal. I don't like Gregory and I do like Chuck.
