I once asked why people post have themselves be invisible.

I found/find it sort of creepy that people are out there lurking and not signed in.

But it's pretty stupid, because soon as they post, I then know who is invisible, so whenever I see anonymous people, I know its one of them, and
depending on the time of day, I know in advance who is going to post.

It's pretty obvious, so their hit and running and stalking doesn't work with me.

Though it still is pretty creepy and I still don't know why it is allowed.

(and I see someone is lurking right now...I think I know who the anonymous one is...we shall see if I am correct.

If you guessed me, you're right. If not then.....smile.gif I'm usually not up this early, but I woke up and can't get back to sleep.

Why is it creepy?

My computer 'remembers' the anonymous setting when I sign in here at home. When I sign in at work, I purposely put it that way because I can check in throughout the day without having to sign in/out repeatedly. With my name at the bottom most of the day would be more "lurking" I think.

'Anonymous' sign-ins should not be perceived as suspicious. If such was considered underhanded, then I'm sure Michael would have disabled the capability.

no, I did not guess you.
As you said, you are not usually around in the morning.(or late night for the west coasters).

It's always signed in on mine, and I have been known to forget to turn the computer off and leave windows open so lots of times it may
say but I am not.

This "anonymous" person thinks your analysis of "anonymous" posters is "creepy" and a bit "weird". But, of course that's just my opinion. roflmao.gif

And why is it any more creepy that having X amount of people who aren't even registered and have no name reading the same forums.
graham4anything
why have posters hiding?

so they can hit and run?

never understood the point

What are they hiding?

The guests cannot post. They are just readers.

But members who post, don't see the point in being anonymous.

When I sit on the stoop, and people walk by, and the conversation begins, you know who is speaking and who is listening.

Seems mighty unfriendly and uncivil to hit and run hiding, if you ask me.

But I didn't bring it up.

COD did. (obviously to agitate, which he is a pro at).

Paranoia getting the best of you today, g? This is not a 'stoop"...it's a forum.....you know who you're talking to when a member posts.

this is a stoop.

it should be known who one is speaking to.

That is one problem with this board I have mentioned at least 100 times over the years. This is not the first time. Won't be the last.

How can you shake someone's hand, or give a hello, or a hug, if you don't know they are in the room?

Why not have the posts anonymous too? Let's all be anonymous and invisible.

invisible=paranoia

openess=honesty

I can understand if one is at work, and not suppose to be online, (though only if you tell your board name would your boss know its you), and in reality,
the boss already can know where you are going online, because they can trace your computer.

Don't really understand it. Seems like anonymous=stalking, then hit and running.

You do know...the member's name is on the written post. Not stalking ...reading "privately"....HUGE difference.....not that I expect you to understand that difference. You want to know who the anonymous readers are in case you want to give them a "hug"? Flee.gif

people not signed up are guest

anonymous readers can only be members who post

(if you are not a subscribed member, one cannot post nor be anonymous).

So I don't get the point
Seems in most cases to be rather creepy, not saying your case or others, just some cases, where it almost always leads to a hit and run type post

This is not the first time you have whined and complained about members signing in "anonymous". It's really none of your business why members choose to sign in that way. You're nosey and intrusive!

Not to mention that canjcat has already explained why she, for one, reads anonymously. But, because her posting profile does not fit the type of pouncing that Graham objects to, he simply ignores her explanation. And I'm sure that there are many other, equally valid reasons for doing this.

But then, one wonders what COD's point was in starting this thread. The huge number of guests as opposed to members has been pointed out and explained (bots, for the most part) a bazillion times.

So hard to make people happy. We either fail to log off so people think we are on site and ignoring them or we come in silent just to cruise and see if any thing is going on.

What are YOU hiding? Or whom are you protecting?

I answered canjcat so maybe YOU should read.(twice now, including the last post).

And you may think there are many other, valid reasons, however I notice you did not list any, therefore, one can safely assume you cannot think
of any.

So the mystery continues.

"Oh, shut up!" she rejoindered.

No, I can think of plenty of valid reasons, I just don't care. Why are you so threatened by them? (I've never done it, by the way, that I can think of)

and, he noted, there were none listed.

Maybe we should all come in costumes and masks

A costume party board.

Nobody would know who anyone is.

are you really graham? I didn't think so.

why have posters hiding?

so they can hit and run?

never understood the point

What are they hiding?

The guests cannot post. They are just readers.

But members who post, don't see the point in being anonymous.

When I sit on the stoop, and people walk by, and the conversation begins, you know who is speaking and who is listening.

Seems mighty unfriendly and uncivil to hit and run hiding, if you ask me.

But I didn't bring it up.

COD did. (obviously to agitate, which he is a pro at).

Paranoia getting the best of you today, g? This is not a 'stoop"...it's a forum.....you know who you're talking to when a member posts.

Invisibly yours,
