I know some of you hate online polls, but this one is in our favor:

He almost single handedly UNITED THE WORLD!

He almost single handedly Destroyed an evil hugh budget surplus!

He almost single handedly created a thousand new Bin Ladens!

He almost single handedly enriched the rich!

That's quite a bit for one man to accomplish!
Buster0001
Well, in case you haven't heard, don't look at Time magazine
when you're at the checkout counter. Because he's their
person of the year.

Pretty sick, huh. This coupled with Karl Rove being name Barbara Walters "most fascinating person of the year" is like a slap in the face. (hell, more like a knee to the groin, repeatedly)

Just curious, did anybody see Bill Moyers "Now" Friday evening? The right-wing pretty much owns the mainstream media so I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise. I know I say this alot but it bears repeating, we absolutely must support our independent media. It's the only place we can go for anything even slightly resembling truth or reality.

btw...since we are in the 'fair elections' topic, here are some interesting links I came across recently:

(this one made me kind of queasy....queasier? loose lips sink ships, right? this guy should have appointed a designated talker!)

What is WRONG with these people? Meet the Press was really good
this morning. Biden and Leuger (sp?) were pretty outspoken about
Bush. Now, I want Biden to run in 2008! Does anyone know anything
about him?

Do you mean:

He almost single handedly UNITED THE WORLD against us! tongue.gif

I just saw the CNN quick-vote that asked if Bush was a good choice for person of the year.

The 'no's outnumber the 'yes's' appr. 2/1.

For the posters that ask, what is wrong with these people? I guess it's all just a matter of personal opinion. For me a 'fascinating person' or a 'person of the year' should be a person who has done something to make the world a better place. IMO, these guys do not fall into that category.

Oh, I meant what is wrong with the people who think Bush is worthy
of being man of the year, not what's wrong with Bush! ha!

There has been some talk about Joe Biden running in '08, if there is an '08, that is. But in '04 he said he didn't want to run. I believe he said this was because of family concerns. He would probably be happier supporting John Kerry in '08.

I heard the Dems want to nominate a southerner. Kerry won't have as much support (mainly AA support) if he doesn't come out on voter/election fraud disenfranchisement. Most are threatening to join the Green party if he doesn't speak out. sad.gif

Yeah, I figured that out after re-reading your post, but my post had been up too long to edit or delete. Sorry about that, Buster. sad.gif

I think Time ought to just leave that cover blank. Bush doesn't fit the bill, and his government has deliberately kept the person of the year from happening. mellow.gif

Time names Hitler 1938 ‘Person of the Year’.
Time names Stalin 1939 ‘Person of the Year’.
Time names Stalin 1942 ‘Person of the Year’.
bh2008
Being named Time Magazine's Person of the Year may not necessarily be a good thing. Previous notable "winners" of course, Adolph Hitler in 1938 and Joseph Stalin in 1939 and 1942. Enough said...

Well, then Bush fits right in.

Puke. I can't even look at Bush talk. Today on the news conference he had he couldn't even talk and wasn't making sense as usual. He was so arrogant he even told the press, have a Happy Holiday but don't come to Crawford for Christmas. What a jerk!

Carl Bernstein's article "The CIA and the Media:How America’s Most Powerful News Media Worked Hand in Glove with the Central Intelligence Agency and Why the Church Committee Covered It Up" from the Oct. 1977 Rolling Stone magazine, seems apropo for an update right now, don't you think ? See

http://www.class.uidaho.edu/mickelsen/Medi...the%20Media.htm

with the snippet :

"Time and Newsweek magazines. According to CIA and Senate sources, Agency files contain written agreements with former foreign correspondents and stringers for both the weekly news magazines. The same sources refused to say whether the CIA has ended all its associations with individuals who work for the two publications. Allen Dulles often interceded with his good friend, the late Henry Luce, founder of Time and Life magazines, who readily allowed certain members of his staff to work for the Agency and agreed to provide jobs and credentials for other CIA operatives who lacked journalistic experience."

By the way, check out the great work CNN did with its Army embedded Pysops in the newsroom during the 2000 election at
http://www.counterpunch.org/cnnpsyops.html .... and you thought they only worked with the Army recently ? Maybe they're there for the 2004 election for all we'd know.

Time Magazine owes us all an apology, unless this is more of the intelligence community's "Disinformation" campaign, in that case a secret 'thank you' to the editors should be emailed to them !

That would be so great..A blank cover.

They often say that the cover isn't for someone "great" but rather, the person that has had the most effect on the world in the past year. I'd say Bush has effectivly dominated the news with his stubborn, and callous agenda.

all

Let's be charitable to Time, this may be a "DISINFORMATION" campaign favor they are doing for the military intelligence Office of Strategic Influence or whatever they're calling the Lie Factory these days.

Is there a word like 'bird cage liner' for magazines like there is for newspapers ?
rebsmom
I don't see why you couldn't use a magazine to line a bird-cage, EV.
