Rather files lawsuit to add CBS executives back to breach of contract lawsuit

Rather seeks to add CBS brass back to lawsuit

Lawyers for Dan Rather have filed a new lawsuit against two current and former CBS executives originally named in his $70 million breach of contract lawsuit against CBS Corp. and Viacom Inc.

Rather sued CBS and his former bosses in 2007. He claimed they removed him from his "CBS Evening News" anchor post after controversy over a report about President George W. Bush's Vietnam-era military service.

Last year, Judicial Hearing Officer Ira Gammerman struck down the parts of the suit that named Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone, CBS President Leslie Moonves and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward as individual defendants.

Monday's filing in state Supreme Court seeks to add Moonves and Heyward again. A CBS spokesman said the network would move to dismiss the lawsuit.

My personal opinion: Although Dan Rather was not my favorite commentator, there is very little doubt in my mind, that he got the shaft on this one.

First, there is no question to me that he was set-up on this. The only surprise was that a veteran newsnan like Rather fell for it.

2nd. Even so, was the penalty he ended up paying because of his competitors and the know it all suits, justified in creating such a furor? Do I suspect the hand of Fox playing a huge part in the resulting clamor for Rather's head? Ans: YES.

3rd. Has every other newsperson been a model of perfection ALL the time ?

I think it very appropiate to give serious thought to the Biblical position " Let he who is without sin throw the first stone. "
