Full Version: Why are we too lazy to write our opinions ?
Common Ground Common Sense > Issues that Affect Our Lives > Foreign Policy and National Defense
Abu Beacon

Most of the time, IMO, writing a letter to our politicians is a waste of time, the exception being local issues in which
the relevant politico fears he/she can actually lose votes. If the media can print or broadcast the real story, I believe it is much more effective.

545 vs 300,000,000

EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.

Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Mr. AB, you and charlie reese have said a mouth full...

Charlie Reese, a major conservative, voted for and supported George W. Bush in 2000. (and was a major critic of Jimmy Carter in 1979 and 1980).
It is said his very vocal endorsement in Florida in 2000 helped W steal Florida. (I happened to be in Orlando at WDW and read his column in the paper back then, I remember I almost threw up doing so).

Just think how great the country would have been had he endorsed Al Gore in 2000 instead of his ignorance in voting for W.

I would think the world would be a much worse place if 544 people charlie Reese wanted were elected into office.

Government would be better with 545 different people, however, only if they were 544 better people, not worse.

(by the way, I don't think our taxes are high enough, and we have NO inflation according to the last 7 years...life would be better if the interest rates
were real 2002-2008). Taxes should be raised and a national sales tax added.

Life would be alot better if we had 544 Ted Kennedy's in office for all time.
(btw- I make it 544 not 545...I am 100% happy with the man I voted for for President in 2008 and 2012.)

A broken clock can be right twice in 24 hours but this is simplistic. I agree we ultimately either by commission or omission are responsible as citizens for what those 535 people do in our name. And with our silent acquiescence have allowed the News to become Info-tainment instead of truly informing us.

Fact is though we want what opponents call "pork" and what we call bringing home the bacon. Ronald Reagan eliminated the Federal Revenue Sharing program that returned tax money to the States and municipalities so the Reps and Senators switched to "Ear-marks". Once again thank the Republicans and those Dems stupid, crooked or scared enough to go along with the toxic ideas of a totally corrupt Party.

If they are supposed to work for us then why don't we get healthcare? Why not trade policies that protect good paying jobs in this country? Why do we go to war on lies? Why do we allow Monopolies and Corporations that are "too big to fail" to exist? Why do we allow lies on the public airwaves?

Why do we allow madmen and demons to saturate the country with calls for secession and rebellion and encourage lunatics waving guns around near our president?

Why do all these things happen?

Because we allowed our government to be bought! Bought by whom? By the very people who hire the liars who encourage the loons and lowlifes and make money off of our suffering and deny us the care we pay for. The very people who get rich shipping our jobs overseas and get richer off of war.

The very people who dress corporate shills up as pious acting flag waving justices who make rulings like "money equals free speech" so some can buy more free speech than others. You can see the smug grins on the faces of the men who've bought the country, when the weak kneed excuses for reporters ask them meekly why things are the way they are. And they shrug and pontificate some lame ass explanation about politics and "differences of opinion". They never say that the vast majority would agree on our vital common interests because that would be too dangerous and stupid of them. They got rich to gain more power than any of us individually or even in large groups and they use that power to get richer by keeping us all as suckers fighting with each other over BS. It is a never ending spiral with boom and bust as the norm and they ride those waves they create more expertly than any surfer out here in Malibu.

When they cause a crash they get richer on Hedge funds and by buying up assets now at fire-sale prices and when there is boom they get richer through sheer fraud they know they'll never be held to account for. They are blood-sucking leeches but with intelligence. They know if we ever got wise en masse they'd have to hire private armies to escort them to their yachts for a quick escape. But they are assured we'll never wise-up. They are confident they've convinced enough of us how "American" it is to have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet and to fight for the right to be dumped from an insurance policy when we get too sick. I'd be encouraged too given what we've seen at town hall meetings throughout this month.

So instead they deign to appear in their expensive suits occasionally on TV as "News Contributors" (mostly on Fox) or write editorial columns in co-opted papers when they aren't being a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation or the American Enterprise Institute... etcetera. Watch their faces carefully and see the hidden contempt for all us suckers out here. They are several steps ahead and know just how to use the technique of mass projection to pre-empt the words that apply to them. Watch as they accuse Obama and Liberals of being the very things they are in spades and chuckle off stage as the ruse gets the gullible to attack those in the same boat who are trying to row to shore.

It is ... to laugh?
