The Second Place that I ever Read the Word EXTIRPATE is in the Above Tom Paine Item. This Forum's Flag Article .
The First Place that I read the Word was in Oliver Cromwell's Reply when at Elizabeth Court he was Accused of being rather Harsh with the Irish Problem . He there stated that at no Time had he ever any intention of EXTIRPATING the Entire Irish People . Some People think he done a Pretty Good Attempt at it . I will be dammed but I cant find this Reference now .
Any road The Irish Word for Country is TIR .
I had thought that this word was no longer in useage so I checked The Oxford Dictionary and looked up Both Extirpate and Exterminate . They are both still there and both mean exactly The Same . ROOT OUR , DESTROY UTTERLY .

Brian would you like to elaborate some more on this? As an American in California I'm a little confused as to who or what you are referring this EXTIRPATE semantic. I have caught a little of what is going on there on C-SPAN here but missed that one. Sorry! Hey! Felix Navidad Brian!
