As some here know, I've been trying to keep my eye on freerepublic.com simply to stay in touch with which issues they're acting upon. Following a post by searchingforsanity today, I (am still doing so) attempted to find the signal on freerepublic.com that allowed them to succeed in having CNN's poll show that 90% of Americans thought Gore should concede. I've yet to find that post but one of the freepers directed another to this link in order to know which polls should be 'freeped':

i quoted here the entirety of the post made by sirfishalot who gave no other indication of what the post is about so you can be sure its sole aim was to draw the activist freepers-of-polls.

as much as a group we may believe in fairness, etc., it's insane to ignore that others believe as strongly simply in winning. i hated to admit it when i finally drew this conclusion but a substantial portion of our nation is satisfied with being a member of the flock of sheeple. others are satisfied with using that to their own advantage so manipulation of public opinion is just another tool in the toolbox.

we must be aware when this is going on and take measures to counter its effect. BOOKMARK this link and refer to it often. alert others here when you know something is up.

Six Navy SEALs filed a lawsuit against the Associated Press and one of its reporters yesterday, saying the news organization revealed their identities, compromised their security and invaded their privacy by publishing personal photographs in a Dec. 4 story.    The complaint says AP reporter Seth Hettena used about 40 images from the personal photo-storage Web site of a Navy SEAL wife. The topic sentence of this AP article would lead one to believe the radicals have a relatively mild-mannered protest planned for President Bush’s second inaugural parade. They are going to wear plain clothes and then turn their backs on the president. Oh, he’ll just be devastated! But a couple of paragraphs down, reporter Donna Cassata contradicts herself, drastically: Among planned events are an anti-war rally and three-mile march to the White House, a massive bike ride similar to those that disrupted traffic in New York City before the Republican National Convention, and a "die-in" to remind the nation of more...

As it is written, it authorizes municipalities to adopt curfew ordinances forbidding public and private school students--but not homeschool students--from being in public places during the hours their school is in session. A great American Hero is coming to Richmond, VA this weekend – GENERAL TOMMY FRANKS! He will be speaking at the Landmark Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. Soldiers in the Fort Lee Army Band will be performing. Thanks to OXENinFLA! Instead of a ticker tape parade, they will be met with a protest staged by Denizens of the Dark - the toxic tofu twits from Food Not Bombs who slander General Franks as a war criminal and worse. “The role he has played in u.s. military aggression, through illegal, unilateral, and pre-emptive war is a crime against humanity,“ they...

C-SPAN | Tuesday, November 7, 2004 | tame
Below is a transcript of a Freerepublic call to C-Span this morning. The topic was "What should be the first topic on the President's agenda?" In light of the fact that the GOP scored BIG with hispanic voters, I believe we should continue to court minority votes in an unprecedented fashion. For example, President Bush should load his judicial picks, cabinet members, etc., SOOOO heavy with blacks and hispanics that Bill Clinton and the Democrats will look like no-diversity-Neanderthals by comparison. The only caveat to my recommendation: make sure Bush's minority picks are all CONSERVATIVE. Can you imagine the possibilities...

I have been in a state of euphoria—absolute joy--since our unprecedented, historic, conservative victory on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. I’ll start my activism “report” by mentioning what I’ve been doing leading up to the election. In the last year or so, I registered a few hundred Republican voters in the state of California. I’ve also been active gathering signatures for several ballot intiatives including tort reform, protection for small business owners re health care, Worker’s comp reform (this was apparently sidelined after Arnold reached an agreement with the legislature), etc. Now, I’ll take you up to a day, or two,...

Just when you thought we'd have a break from this sort of thing. But a FReepers work is never done! Those few of you who are on AOL like me (believe me, I've heard all the jokes and snide remarks already) can FReep this poll on whether Bush's win gives him a mandate. Current numbers are 52% yes, 48% no. (This link will NOT work for non AOLers.)

Good detective work. Have you considered the value of orchestrating an attempt to get networks to stop with unconfirmable, unscientific polls by showing exactly how badly these polls are abused?

Even our leadership asked us to vote for Kerry after the debates. These polls have no validity.

These MSM polls serve no purpose other than hype. You can see how their virtual ballot boxes are fraudulently stuffed.

It's akin to the right's ascertion that employment levels are high, due to the fact that so many have fallen off the UI rolls and/or have taken "survival jobs". It's like the "average wage" of the population in a bar rises by millions when Bill Gates walks in.

that would be asking the networks to stop taking advertizing money, the more ways they can drive people to their websites, the more ad revenue they get from those page/eyeyball hits.

don't forget, they're not purveyors of truth, what they sell to advertizers is access to our eyes.

No, I don't think so. I think you can probably think of several instances in which the media has been forced to be accountable for itself in just the last two years alone.

If you prefer to hand it off, find a journalist with good reach who'd be interested in this. I'd aim for a print source first.

Between the freeped polls and Gallup Rebublican slanted polls, how can anyone relying on the MSM know where most Americans stand on the issues?

i'd sure as hell hope they know they can't rely on online polls for anything meaningful, i'm certain that their 'nonscientific' qualifier indicates how much value they place on those polls as informational. those polls are interactive simply to get us to their websites.

re gallup? dunno...

oops, just realized you were probably rhetorically asking how americans can rely on the bs, thought you meant how the MSM can rely on their garbage. they buy their own polls, hire their own pollsters is my understanding.

Good question. Someone needs to radically revise that industry.

If "they" call it "freeping", what do we call it when do the same?

We do it because that's what they call themselves. Those who've made an issue of freepers as an insult were off target a bit.

Think about it, the website they congregate at is called "Free Republic." Freepers. Get it?

No different from us being called Coggers or something like that.

Grrr...., but these same polls are what my friends who are of the other major persuasion quote when they tell me the rest of the world feels the way they do! Now, I freely admit that on Kerry's blog, whenever someone posted a poll, I went and voted to make my opinion known. But I didn't vote over and over, even on the polls where I could!

No wonder none of us trust the mass media!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know why the word "freeper" is used- what I was asking was what are we called as an equivalent?

I was also being a bit tongue-in-cheek: we criticize them for rushing to the polls, when we have done the same.

Back to the original thought, I spent some time in freeperland this morning. Copied their thought onto our existing threads having to do with the tsunami, a cat being shot behind a walmart and the "no dime" action. It's as if I had entered a school for the "challanged" (he he), with all due respect for the challenged.

Coggers has my vote. Why not set up a poll?

As far as freepers go, I've been on their site numerous times and some of the stuff there is really scarey! Like CA should go the way of Sodom and Gomorrah- the freeper was serious, and that's what's scarey.
