This is confirmed, Sen. Barbara Boxer has signed the challenge to Ohio's electors and Congress will have to meet in separate sessions for two hours before they can vote for Bush again.
THANK YOU SENATOR BOXER!
CSPAN will have the action starting sometime around 1:00. As usual it's really hard to find out what will be on when...
I'm so glad to see someone at least make a tiny little bump in the road for the marauding Republicans.
thank you thank you thank you thank you... I do think that Kerry's letter yesterday made some difference, but the real difference has been all the people who have kept this issue alive. So, thank you Cobb, thank you Conyers, thank you Jesse Jackson, thank you Fitrakis and Arnebeck, thank you Sheila Jackson-Lee, thank you Greg Palast, thank you everybody for all the information gathering, legal help and forums, calls, e-mails, being there at demonstrations.
Now the real work begins, because this two hour debate may or may not give the results of even a formal hearing into the matter. There needs to be some Republicans on board for this; some who care about the right to vote, because in a formal hearing the truth can come out, but they can vote down a hearing into it. So, we need to re-double our efforts, and call those Republicans who believe in freedom... some don't, but people probably know whether or not to call the ones in their state (if their Senators are Republican). Ohio has two Republican Senators, DeWine and Voinovich; I wouldn't feel afraid of calling them, but DeWine called this investigation "frivolous" and Voinovich was just re-elected Nov. 2nd (but by a large margin), so they would need a complete conversion to support a hearing. I'm ready to read them chapter and verse...
I got this in my inbox this morning:
QUOTE
PDA has received a tremendous amount of feedback regarding the Democratic Party's lack of concern for adequately protecting our electoral rights. We have also heard from many supporters who say they will not vote Democrat in the future if the Party leadership does not fight for us today. Now is the time to tell that to our representatives. Call your Senators, especially if they are up for re-election in 2006 (see below) and let them know how important today's vote is to you. Call Minority Leader Reid and tell him how the Party's future is on the line. Act now, we can still make the Democratic Party our party, but we have to work for it. This is an important step. The Senate switchboard opens at 9:00 A.M. EST. The vote is at 1:00 P.M. EST. Call early and often.
