I found this on the Antiwar.com's blog. Is it true? I suspect it is, though I can't verify it. If anyone has any more on the Nelson Report, let me know.

BUSH REJECTS BAD NEWS

The Nelson Report is a daily political tip sheet and analysis written for the past 20 years for the (US and Asian) corporate and government clients of Chris Nelson, a former Capitol Hill staffer and UPI reporter. (He was actually the first to break the looted explosives story before the election; Josh Marshall then posted it to his blog.) This Monday, he wrote:

There is rising concern amongst senior officials that President Bush does not grasp the increasingly grim reality of the security situation in Iraq because he refuses to listen to that type of information. Our sources say that attempts to brief Bush on various grim realities have been personally rebuffed by the President, who actually says that he does not want to hear “bad news.”

Rather, Bush makes clear that all he wants are progress reports, where they exist, and those facts which seem to support his declared mission in Iraq...building democracy. “That's all he wants to hear about,” we have been told. So “in” are the latest totals on school openings, and “out” are reports from senior US military commanders (and those intelligence experts still on the job) that they see an insurgency becoming increasingly effective, and their projection that “it will just get worse.”

Our sources are firm in that they conclude this “good news only” directive comes from Bush himself; that is, it is not a trap or cocoon thrown around the President by National Security Advisor Rice, Vice President Cheney, and DOD Secretary Rumsfeld. In any event, whether self-imposed, or due to manipulation by irresponsible subordinates, the information/intelligence vacuum at the highest levels of the White House increasingly frightens those officials interested in objective assessment, and not just selling a political message.

Sy Hersh characterizes Bush's grasp of the war as "hallucinatory" Pat Roberston asserts that Bush told him personally that the upcoming war in Iraq would produce no casualties. I wonder now if the famous, seven minute deer in the headights scene in Fahrenheit 9/11 is merely a good illustration of Bush's everyday response to the hell on earth that he (or his handlers) has created. The question is - if he can't or won't operate at even minimal levels of reality, what next? Can the Republican establishment (i.e McCain, Lugar et al) rein him in? Impeachment?
That would tear this country apart and make Cheney president which, I realize, he probably is already. Where do we go from here?

I was quite impressed by the presentation of the case put forward by David Lytel, Donna Palermini, Pat LaMarche, John Bonifaz and Jonathan Simon.

Besides the efforts of John Conyers, I have seen no similar effort from elected Democrats.

My two recommendations are:

1. Join and support Lytel's redefeatbush.com - http://redefeatbush.com/
See http://redefeatbush.com/modules.php?name=F...+and+What+We+Do

2. Become active locally. The best organizing tools I am aware of are:

A. Howard Dean's Democracy for America -
http://www.democracyforamerica.com/

B. Closer to home, CGCS "local" - http://localcgcs.freesuperhost.com/index.php

C. Develop a close relationship with the staff and your member of the House. They generally hold "town hall" meetings on weekends. Volunteer to work in their district, push for impeachment.

Thanks P.I.T.A,
Every day I come here to look and listen, every day I ask myself what is it going to take to get the majority of these fine people to stop whining about the past and start looking progressively towards the future. I too am guilty of not wanting to let things go but at the same time we will be sentencing ourselves to more of the same if we don’t start looking forward to see what we can do to make the changes we all agree need to be made.
I’m trying to acknowledge in a positive way these posts that are forward thinking and helpful for our mutual future.
Unfortunately my local CGCS is not up yet and I myself am unable to do anything about it at this point in time, hopefully I’ll be more able in the near future. In the meantime I will keep working with my local democrats in hopes of having an impact on the necessity of maintaining a progressive mindset. We are doing pretty well here in New Mexico, both houses and our governor are progressively democratic. We New Mexicans never let our guard down, even with a majority we continue the fight to keep the progressives in power. On a national level we have big problems, one senator and two congress people are republicans, fortunately none of these folks can be described as neocons. They are conservatives who must remain moderate if they want to be re-elected in this state.
Keep the info coming PITA, I sure appreciate it.

Paine -
Thanks for the resources. I want to stay close to that Howard Dean site w/ it's on emphasis on grassroots activity.

You know, vf, I find people who make broadbased, condescending and wrongheaded criticisms like this to be dreadful whiners.
