Israel drafts women and I think the Soviets did too and it's hard to beat the women of the Peshmerga.  The only argument against women in war is an Israeli study that showed that women get a bit more squeamish about killing after they have children.  Britain "virtually" drafted women during WWII cause they were running out of people of age to fight.  Norway is considering a draft of women right now.  The number of females in NATO uniforms, all volunteers, has jumped from 30,000 in 1961 to 288,000 today.  They seem to be quite able and I think that if there is a draft, then we all should go.

soviet union did not draft women, afaik. i have spoken to one middle-aged woman ever who has admitted to serving in the red army.

here should be a transition period at least; this being a highly controversial and sensitive subject, and for the time being, volunteering seems the best option.

when we come to the point where absolutely everyone has food and shelter and education and medication, and can choose their way of life freely, i don't want to see anyone fighting who didn't choose so.

as to the DRAFTING of women, seriously hope not until it comes down to the 'last man standing' in an extremely crucial situation.
but i am FOR both go through military TRAINING of some sort - not only because of the reserve personnel benefit, but the social lessons it provides.

Yeah well, we'll see about that when the draft actually happens.

What's so wrong with drafting women if they did reinstitute a draft!  Didn't you all support the ERA?  Do you want to discriminate only when it suits you?  Women should not be treated like wilting flowers and they should be insulted if there is a draft and they are excluded!

You pretty much nailed it as far as I'm concerned. If I want equal rights, I better be willing to be part of preserving those rights.

I don't support the drafting of anyone - I believe that military service should always be voluntary and not compulsory. However, as long as our Country has a draft, all able-bodied adults should be subject to it - not just the men. I don't believe I can insist that I be treated equally in the work place, receive equal pay, share all the same rights and responsibilities as men - but duck out on this one thing.

The whole "women carry babies" idea is insane in this day and age. Our world is over-populated enough. We don't need to protect women so they can perpetuate the species - there are plenty enough doing that already. More than our planet can handle, actually.

Maybe it's because I already served once - I don't know. But I'm with Heart - I am a woman. I am strong and I am capable. And I don't need to be protected. That kind of mentality seeks to diminish the amazing human being I am.

You said it not us. All I said it is strange how the nay sayers come out when there is a lot of discussion of any topic.

I will take about the draft all I want. Funny how you started a thread about the draft too, regardless if it was meant to mock those who are want to talk about it, the point is you still brought it up.

And, I don't care who they draft--men or women or both.  I'm not going.  I'd rot in jail for years before I'd go kill innocents.

I guess you guys have never been "moderatorated" right? I don't think you understand that I do not have to tell your "mommy", nor do I think that you understand what civil discourse is all about if you're going to say the things above.
