The following letter was sent to me as a response to a letter that I sent to all the Republicans on my e-mail list. Bugging them is so much fun! Her letter was been edited for the sake of brevity, but this is the response to her. The letter is in bold face. FDR...led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. After we declared war on Japan for attacking us, Germany declared war on us- and we had never attacked them. Hitler, by the way, refused to listen to his advisors when they suggested that he remain neutral with the United States.
Truman... started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. North Korea attacked the sovereign nation of South Korea; that nation asked for help from the United Nations. The US, as a member nation, engaged in the war- along with a coalition of many other nations under the UN flag.
John F. Kennedy... started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Actually, Eisenhower got us involved in Vietnam after the defeat of the French at Dien Bien Phu. Johnson...turned Vietnam into a quagmire. You are absolutely correct. We paid a dear and heavy price for our participation in that war. Our lesson learned there was one often cited by those opposing the current war as a reason not go to war in the first place.
Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. France did not want to participate, but NATO did. The Clinton Administration guided the efforts of NATO in the prevention of another holocaust against the several million Muslims living in Kosovo, and ultimately apprehended Slovidan Milosovich, the perpetrator of the genocide. No American or NATO lives were lost in that war.
Clinton was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. The terms of the 'surrender' of Osama were that the warlords offering bin Laden's head would have been recognized at the governing body of Sudan; in hindsight, it may have been a good deal, but hindsight is always 100%. It didn't seem like a good deal at the time.
In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has… liberated two countries, this is, at best, questionable by most authorities, crushed the Taliban in and around Kabul, crippled al-Qaida again, this 'fact' is questionable at best when one looks at al Zaquari’s unbridled acts of terror in Iraq and the terrorists in Chechnya who killed hundreds of children in Russia under the banner of al Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, UN, not US inspectors Iran UN and EU, not US and North Korea no longer there without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. Yes, it was fantastic that we got Saddam- no one disagrees. Most Americans, however, wish that the man who killed 3,000 Americans (and other nationalities living in America) on 9/11 would have been the one captured. Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. We agree, that was a mistake. We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq... and never found them. Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! A statement subject to lengthly and credible debate. The Military morale is high! Again, a subjective statement that at least one soldier looking in trashheaps for armor for his humvee might argue. The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts. Bias is subjective; both sides argue that the media is biased against them. And ignorance could be defined as blaming the media's bias for an individua’ls failure to seek out the facts. Wait, there's more... JOHN GLENN [D- Ohio] ON THE SENATE FLOOR:
Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13 Senator Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn:
"How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look those men - with their mangled bodies - in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a dedication to duty - that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible. I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?" 1) John Glenn is a Democrat; 2) he could just as easily been talking about Cheney, Rumsfeld, or Wolfowitz- or Bush, for that matter. For those who don't remember - During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA. This statement is pure unadulterated McCarthyism rearing its ugly head. That is the American way of doing things- even the most guilty are entitled to legal representation. And like it or not, The Communist Party was then, and still is, a legal political party in the United States; it is as entitled to have its candidates listed on the ballot as Republicans or Democrats. Freedom of Assembly is a freedom granted to everyone on American soil, even those to whom we find offense. Now he's a Senator elected by the people of his state in an election untainted by violence, fraud, or corruption. If you can read this, thank a teacher. You're welcome! If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. Again, you're welcome!
My purpose in writing this letter to you is simple. The main objection to the current administration is that they do not know how to tell the truth; this letter is a perfect example of that objection. And what is more disturbing is that you, the sender, simply took the word of the person or party who sent it to you that is was fact. You did no investigation- not even cursory. The ignorance here is assuming that you have the fact, then trying to pass on this ignorance as fact.
