Means a lot to us fence sitters too.
For those who may not be familiar with PFLAG - "Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays" - was dreamed up in 1972 and held it's first meeting in 1973. There are over 500 affiliates and 200,000 members/supporters Nation-wide. PFLAG focuses on offering support, education and advocacy - not only to the homosexual community but to mainstream society as well. They are a non-profit organization, supported primarily through donations.
I'd have to say PFLAG is probably my favorite organization to donate to, right up there with Modest Needs - www.modestneeds.org - an organization which makes one-time gifts up to $1,000.00 for individuals who are otherwise self-sustaining but have been hit with a financial expenditure that would basically break the proverbial bank, such as - funeral expenses, car repairs, late mortgage payment due to short-term layoff, etc.
Modest Needs doesn't care about gender, orientation, religion, race, party affiliation, etc. It helps those people who "fall through the cracks" - they aren't financially secure or credit-worthy enough to get a loan from a bank, etc. and they aren't poor enough to receive any sort of public assistance or assistance from most organizations designed to help the needy.
As a side bar - I would Love to see us create a space to share information about organizations like these two with one another. I think there are likely hundreds of worthy groups such as PFLAG and Modest Needs who could benefit from an infusion of "new money." If we could just get the word out there. PFLAG, especially, given the tone in the Nation right now.
Ok, I'll step off of my soap box now. LOL
