White House Release of Interrogation Memos May Turn Up Heat on 9th Circuit Judge
The Recorder

The Obama administration released legal memos Thursday that authorized interrogation techniques against CIA-held prisoners in the war on terror -- including one signed by 9th Circuit Judge Jay Bybee while he was with the DOJ. The substance of the document, which allows waterboarding, had been reported earlier -- but the details may ramp up demands for action against Bush administration lawyers. While the White House assured CIA employees Thursday they would not be prosecuted, the president offered no cover to government lawyers.
