Spain considers making solar panels obligatory when building or renovating a house to save energy and improve environmental condition.

Spain, one of the sunniest countries in Europe, has currently less solar panels than Germany.

At current oil prices, warming water with solar energy saves a family 80 euros a year at least and reduces emission of greehouse gases.

Critics say installing solar panels will cost 1100-1400 euros per house.

The prime minister's Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's cabinet intends to increase use of solar panels tenfold by year 2010, and is considering national subsidies to acheve the goal.

Based on BNS, and it based story on newspaper El Pais.

1400 Euro is less than $2000 US ? Am I reading that wrong? I wonder if they are talking about enough panels to provide all the energy needs, or just a small portion? I've been looking into it for myself, and so far I have figures closer to $36,000.

Can anyone who knows more offer some information? Thank-you.
