Wow, this is a
really old tactic (and disproven)!
Back when I was in junior high (1979), we had a program in which a Catholic lay teacher (&, I think, a nun) came in to speak to my class. I'm not really sure what they're topic was
supposed to be, I'm assuming it was a pro-abstinence thing what I do remember about it was learning about abortion. We were told that abortion was very dangerous because it caused cancer and scarring that it leads to infertility. Within a span of a few minutes we were told that one abortion significantly decreased a woman's chance of ever getting pregnant and that women who had abortions were immoral and usually had 5 or 6 abortions. I was 12 or 13 at the time and you can imagine the reaction I got when I blurted out something the the effect of "if each abortion does that much damage and causes infertility, how are these women getting pregnant and having all those abortions?"
Why do I tell you this stupid story? Well, I went to
public school and, aside from not knowing anything about abortion, was completely confused as to why they were discussing the issue and using such extreme scare tactics. I became a lifelong advocate for choice that day
