Stop & Shop, Shaw's Supermarkets resume distribution of Bay Windows
Published: Wednesday, April 27, 2005

As many of our readers know, Bay Windows was the target of a smear campaign, orchestrated by the anti-gay Article 8 Alliance (www.article8.org), to pressure Stop & Shop and Shaw's supermarkets into banning our newspapers.

Stop & Shop halted distribution of the paper in its stores the week of March 31 due to complaints about the paper's personals and told us that distribution would resume if the personals were removed from copies available at Stop & Shop. We were already in the process of making our personals available only on BayWindows.com and expedited the move to get the newspaper back into Stop & Shop.

Officials from Shaw's supermarket told us that the paper wasn't available at Shaw's stores due to a third-party vendor's miscommunication about Bay Windows's status as a customer.

As of this week, however, you can once again find us at select Stop & Shop and Shaw's supermarket locations. Visit www.baywindows.com for a complete list. We are thrilled to continue our relationship with both supermarkets, which enables us to make Bay Windows more available to our suburban readers.

We would like to thank the many readers who contacted the supermarkets in support of Bay Windows. We would also like to ask you to take a moment to contact Stop & Shop and Shaw's and thank them for continuing distribution of New England's largest newspaper serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. You can contact the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company by writing to Marc Smith, CEO, 1385 Hancock Street, Quincy MA 02169.

Or you can visit www.stopandshop.com and click on the "contact us" button at the top of the page to send Stop & Shop an e-mail. You can also thank your local store manager.
