I have ever since i was a little boy been fachinate by Ghurkas, the worlds last mercenary elite force, the reason was a story my granfather told me of of his youngest brother who fought in the Canadian forces in Korea.
The year was 52' and my great grand uncle had guard duty, which when confronting the chinese was a almost certaint deathsentence if they startet a mass attack! It was night and moonless so he could't see a hand in front of him literaly! it was also ekstra scary since you only could rely on hearing and smell, and on those nights you could literaly smell the other sides cooking,
The hours went by and it was late, soon he would get relived, he didnt notice it at first but he could suddenly feel an ekstremly light touch on his right upperarm, as if something was feeling around?... *Shhh good canadian..... * was whisperd into his ear in gebrokken english, he knew it was Ghurkas since he knew their dialect, they had sneek't up on him in pitch dark and gently touched his shoulder pats to find out by tuch if he was friend or enemy by the shape of the patch, the frontlines were only a few hundred meters from each other so in darkness whitout nightvision googles, you had to find your way around by other sences than sight, then as quickly as they came they were gone, whitout a sound, it was at that point it dawn on him how close he was to literaly losing his head, one would identify another would be ready whit his Kukri to chop off the head whit a sideways swipe if he was an enemy!
It was at that point he literaly pissed in his pants!

The Ghurkas was up to the introducktion of nightvision googles the worlds premier night and close in fighters, they were known to use nothing but handgrenades and their Kukris when it came to up close and personal, if you want to see a kukri go to the link presentet down below, and learn a little about their history! smile.gif

From everything I have ever read about the Gurka's, they were some hard core bad mofo's. I also read that the Kukri can not be resheathed without tasting blood. I wonder if that gurka's knife was busy with some Chi-Coms that night

That story is true Staff Sergeant. My Dad's sister was a little over twenty years older than my Dad, she married a man who fought in WW1. He related a story to me when I was just a little kid about a patrol of Ghurka's were sent out through their lines to pick up a prisoner from the German trenches. They all had resheathed their knives except the one's actually holding the prisoner when they returned. When they turned over the prisoner they sliced the palm of their own hand before resheathing their knife.

Makes you wonder how they choose which German they were going to bring back alive and how many they left grinning from ear to ear.
