Crime Wave Or Scare
Abstract
Violent crime every persons fear or is it blown out of proportion. As a criminologist this is what I found you may be shocked.

Introduction
The truth is violent crime is on the decline and the sentences for crime have increased. The goverment officials have given into the media to look good where in reality they are so buisy they can not research what is going on. The media comes with all these views to get raitings or if its a crime show they can profile many more offenders.

What is a goverment official to say when a camera is in his face with no evidence of the media being true. Did you know social sciences and journals only except source information froom peer reviewed information. If its over 10 years its out dated material. The more recent the study the better. A acedemic or social scientist would not find one study the majority would have to point in a certain direction with scientific credibility.

Does the news ever come with peer reviewed jounals to discuss crime infront of the camera. In a certain way they ambush the goverment official with a story or topic and the official will answer with whats sociological.

The media I am saying can be trusted but do you believe everything you hear on TV or radio? the latest polls say the American people don't. Shouldn't we leave policy to the people we elect not the media.

Ok enough from that thought to what is going on with criminals and crime this week in this article by one of the posters here.

The truth you are more likely to die in your home or an automobile accident that be a victim of crime. Crime occurs yes but its way down and slightly up know do to gas prices but not at epidemic proprtions. The invasion of countries has increased terror attacks abroud. A terrorist grouphas coooling of periods of yearsin America.

The Department of Corrections data shows that one forth of those sentenced for nonviolent crimes commit a crime and return to prison after going to prison for the first time. So tell me is locking up people the answer to everything? They learn in prison how to be violent and commit more crimes social learning. The one fourth who come back who were non violent to start out with.

People belive from TV that crime is scary with the creepy music they do in the shows and all the other weird effects. Did you know studies show that when a crime occurs there tends to be copycat crimes but not always.

The good news is public response to crime is the way to stop crime the studies show. The theories in the first 48 are true so some stuff is real but how do you always know? teach your kids how to study peer review and let them know not everything on the internet is true or books or TV. It starts in childhood not all the time the way people view the world.

Some of the stuff the media has done has been so wrong like makeing people believe murder suicide is prevelent in schools and a predator will get you. When I see this stuff I am in disbelief. We all know the motives of crime shows rateings and then they can profile people when they don't register for crimes if they push legislation.All the campains they do help them and crime has been in decline for years.

I say be aware of your enviromemt and the truth anyone can be a victim of a crime society has tried to stop it for years since the begining of man. All the religious people can pick to the holy book in their religion was it Adam and EVE with theft? But the TV is just scare tactics people don't trust them the polls and studies say. Should you vote for someone who caves into this behavior what if they say no bracelets for sex offenders and they are really educated about it.

I would really freak out this week if some legislature says something like this when the camera is at hand.

" Well as you know many sex crimes are not reported. We plan on more funding for the Marshals service and swifter justice and LE in general to aprehend criminals. We are useing social security numbers and car registry to track the offenders. You need a car to work and social security in this day and age. We are combing the databases to make it more effective. Those silly ancle bracelets just get cut off. The truth is since the crimes are under reported we are makeing it easier for victims to report. We are also make safe falls in the system with DNA. Some of your ideas are allright but the truth is your program didn't invent CODIS or AFIS. We bought the technology you didn't invent it. We have had in the works for a while these issues. With those ancle bracelets what if a young child is befriended and comes to the offenders house a rare instance but true. Are you media people in the buisness of technology and have you done a patent search because as you know we have protocal to stop the goverment from being defrauded. As G.W. would say you can't always do whats popular so we are still protecting the public. Since the TV has convinced the public that all you can do is lock up thes people rehabilitation is not factored in. Many of the sex offenders being released the exact amount is not known were before DMNA was admissiable and some may not have DNA in the first conviction. Every year someone on death rowe is wrongly convicted. And sex offenders are the smallest population of the prison system but recidivate more. I don't think you are telling all the facts. What about prior DNA before 1986 when it was used first in a serial rape case? We need to make sure the severity of the crime that people on this plan really commited the crime. Do you have any studies before 1986 that show percentiles of offenders who are on this program without DNA in their conviction? Rape is an awful crime and victims don't come forward for fear of shame or no one will believe them. But we need checks and balances. In reality some ideas you presented may be put to use but reality you stay the media and I will stay the law maker. Every policy will be studied and the effects in a realistic scientific way."
