I am a Japanese School Teacher
By: Azrael

In August 2003 I moved to Kyoto, Japan as a part of the JET program. I am an assistant language teacher in three Jr. High schools. The experience has been...interesting to say the least. Interesting enough to warrant it's own editorial.

However, there isn't just one editorial that could cover everything about my experiences here. So I decided to make it into an editorial series. This is the main page - check here for updates.

Great stuff, KT !

Kids are kids, no matter where they live, huh ?

I was surprised that there were ghettos in Japan, though. I always imagined that Japan was rather neat and tidy - altogether different from the US. Seems that is not the case. Also surprised that the kids get promoted no matter what and that there is so little discipline the schools- or rules.

As hilarious as these stories are, they are also very educational to someone like me who has
never visited the Far East.

From my own experience of five years of teaching ages 1 year to 80 year olds and some of it in the age group described by this website writer - he is not exaggerating. Great site. Thanks KT.

Perhaps the title of the thread should have been 'I am a foreign teacher in Japan.' (I had expected a Japanese person to be writing it.)
