Livyjr
amy, I hate to tell you this, but that map you just posted for all the candid world to see, including all of George W. Bush's many enemies, here and on Mars as well, because you know how those Martians are, always watching us as they do, and yes, amy, they too have the internet; amy, that map is actually classified THE TOPPEST OF ALL TOP SECRETS of America, BECAUSE it is the one posted on George W. China is much different now, and I am glad of that, myself, as some of my favorite people happen to be Chinese!

And yes, they are girls, too!

And yes, they too, have opinions!

And in that movie, the girl was out beating up bad guys, and well, I thought it was kind of cool, anyway ....

Don't mess with an independent thinking girl who knows t'ai chi, would be one possible conclusion to be drawn from that, maybe, anyway ....

Thanks for leaving me that late glass of iced tea, Amy,especially with the extra ice you put aside. I stopped by pretty late and saw that Livyjr and Jeff had stopped by.

I did respond to your posts to me on the Cindy thread, Amy. I notice Sandra has started Vol. 2 so perhaps you did not get to see it, so I will reprint it here.

I'm sorry to say that I do not own a digital camera. I don't own any kind of a camera anymore, not even a throwaway. If your husband is able to " crack the code" on posting photos, let me know. There is a way I can do it, which is how I posted Beacon's photo on the dog thread some time ago but I have to go through a web site which my relatives and I have. It's open only to members of the family.

So, anyhow, Amy, here is my post back to you.

I admire your uncommon common sense, your sense of decency and your wisdom. So, feel free to challenge me and disagree with me anytime. You have the ability to get me thinking "out of the box"! I need a good "shake-up" every so often.

First, thanks for your response, Amy. I see where you are coming from re: Cindy, and I believe we both admire her for her courage in standing up to the power of the establishment and also for her actually doing something to let everyone on this planet actually see what can happen in a democracy. Far more than has been done by those who really could have shown the world what a decent America COULD do but didn't. Some of her statements probably did not need to be said and that is where you disagreed with her, and I can see why.

Second, your compliments really touched me, Amy. Thank you for saying what you did. Your words also make me feel that I am not just an old guy that's out of touch with today's generation.

You are a lovely lady.

Mr. A.B., this particular specific thread exists in the first place precisely because you are in touch with what America used to be all about, and if anyone is out of touch, it is the younger generation, and not you!

It's just that there are so many more of them than you, that makes it maybe appear that you are a minority!

Which I guess you really are!

It's a cool summer night here in Kah-lee-FAWN-yah. Air temp around 75, late night advection fog layer a-coming in (nature's air conditioner, I like to call it). Typically, and unlike the PR about our state, the mornings are overcast, evenings as well. But it keeps old SOL off our backs until mid-morning, which keeps us comfortable.

A Lovely place. Too many people.

But, they probably said that about me 40 years ago, so who am I to say "stay away."

It's just too stressful on us, otherwise, wondering, always wondering, if the fog really is fogging while you are gone, or not!

If jeffmoskin was not in L.A., would there be a sound of the fog fogging, or not?

Because outside of you, jeffmoskin, who would be there to hear it, or to know the difference?

(editor's note: Livyjr, an engineer, is apparently striving to come across as an English major, with this attempt at correct English grammer above here, the who's versus the whom's, and I just want to clarify that Livyjr is clearly just an engineer making attempts at the use of correct English, AND HE IS NOT AN ENGLISH MAJOR, because as jeffmoskin would be the first to admit, engineers are not English majors at all, however they may appear to the unsuspecting public as such, using whom in place of who, and, in fact, upon graduating as engineers, we are really barely literate, but that is supposed to be a secret, so shame on me for telling! That was very politically incorrect of me to reveal that, and so, without further ado, I'll voluntarily go and stand in the corner with a dunce cap on my head .....):

The hero comes down from the mountain ....

Radiant with the power!

Yet one tussle with a dusty old man

Quickly tumbles him into the dust!

In olden times, young men and women who wanted to be extraordinary trained in the mountains with a famous master.

Away from all the distractions of society, isolated in the cleanliness, they remained on a high peak and did not come down until they had attained great ability!

Such people were heroes, the pinnacle of cultivation!

However, in their subsequent wanderings in the world, such heroes would often come upon some oldster who could quickly best them.

Whether in philosophical debate or physical skill, there was always some obscure wanderer who could outshine even the greatest of heroes.

Why?

Because the hero only had perfection, the strength of youth, and courage!

The oldsters had the advantage of experience and wisdom!

There will always be people in the world better than yourself!

Learn to recognize those elders who are wiser than yourself, and respect them!

Know that you yourself will not be great until you have lived a long time!

To perfect oneself is difficult, but not rare!

To have perfect wisdom, is rare, indeed!

Engineer's note: The above is constructed with only ONE SENTENCE.

Ah, well, you see, jeffmoskin, I am a mechanical engineer, and structures and dynamics are two areas I have always been interested in, and vibrational patterns, of course, and well, you see, there are aetheric cross-currents that used to slowly waft through here which made the use of shorter sentence structure acceptable, although really without adequate safety factor, or so I thought anyway, and I checked, of course, on three different Cray supercomputers and I concluded, jeffmoskin, that it is now too dynamically unstable in here, because of a long series of cosmic confluences which are warping and twisting the very fabric of BLOG-O-SPHERIC CYBERSPACE itself, to use sentence structure in here with periods in there at certain times of what now appears to be a sympathetic kind of vibration, perhaps, in sync with the cyclic waxing and waning of the gravity field of a huge massive block hole some hundreds of miles to the south of me, as in times of immense magnetic intensity emanating from this black hole, those periods in my sentence structure could well act as hinge points and so, with this aetheric cross-current contantly increasing in velocity, as it has due to a huge column of exceptionally hot air rising somewhere to the south of me, in connection with this black hole, well, I thought that there might be a Seattle Narrows "Bouncing Betty" type of phenomena that would get my sentences with periods in them to oscillating wildly and tear them right apart if that hot air were to actually come about a half-inch more northwards with any velocity at all, and so .....

And after having done some further regression analysis, jeffmoskin, on no less than fifteen or twenty Cray supercomputers, it can be conclusively demonstrated that this massive column of hot air is actually emanating from this same black hole, which is located somewhere to the south of New Jersey, and approximately 3,300 miles, give or take, to the east of San Francisco, and what a scientific anomoly that is, eh, a massive column of hot air emanating from a black hole ......

Excellents thoughts, Livyjr.

GUILT.

Livyjr
A man and his dog were walking along a road.

The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years.

He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road.

It looked like fine marble.

At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow!"

"Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir."

"Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed.

There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man.

"Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said.

"The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates?"

"Nope."

"That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

When he was very young, he asked me if our dogs will meet up with us in Heaven, one day.

So long as you make it to the right gate, they will, and there is the art, isn't it, amy, knowing the difference between the two?

I guess if you just listen for where your dog is barking from when you get ready to go, you won't go wrong when you get there, as to where you are supposed to be!

And maybe that's why God assigned dogs to accompany people through life in the grand design of things down here on this earth of ours!

His name is Guy and he is a two year old 110lb golden retriever, who managed to get into some fertilizer a couple of days ago - at least that is what I think he did - and I'm hoping to bring him home before I leave to take my son to college in Massachusetts next Monday. Did anyone see Bush's speech today?

Oh God, Snuffysmith!

NO!

Please!

No George W. Bush in here!

[sounds of Livyjr gagging .......]
Snuffysmith
No George Bush here I promise. Haven't read volume one to know the ground rules. Am I forgiven? I don't want anyone gagging on my beat.
