I just finished reading a great book called "a Gift of Valor". It doesn't matter weither you are pro or anti war. It is about a Marine who died last year from injuries sustained during combat in Iraq.
here is a link to an article on the book
The Gift of Valor

This Marine gave his life to save his buddies by putting his helmet on a grenade and laying on it. This book does not glorify war, it tells a simple story about a Corporal and the events leading up to his death.

The book ends with the mention that he was recommended for the Congressional Medal of Honor, but I dont know if it was actually awarded posthumously.

Semper Fi and God bless Cpl Jason Dunham, RIP 2004

Finally got it (large print edition of course) and methinks 'twas the best read I've had in years! Once I got it 'twas one of them books you don't wanna put down.

The story of Marine Corporal Jason Dunham – who gave his all to protect the men beside him, was a window into what really goes on over there. I'd highly recommend it to everyone, no matter what your stance on the Iraq war, if you're truly interested in the American military personnel servin' there, eh?

Thanks again for the recommendation Staff Sergeant!
