I think that the troops should be brought home now, but i am also aware of the political ramifications if that happend. In essence it would cost far more lives down the road if US/UK brought their troops home from one minute to the next.
It is a given that both terrorist and apologist for the fundamental wiews around the world would feel embolded by this, and really try to see how long and how much they can get out of it by being obnoxius and murderous against those that disagree whit them.
This also includes fundamentalist of other sects and religions, so the little twerp has place US and the world in a quargmire it cannot aford to leave before the job is done in one way or another.

This is the worst kind of situation to be in, it is truly catch 22. or you are damned
if you do, and damned if you dont.
I dont have a patent solution at hand that would magicaly solve anything, but i do know that the Alliance has to be able to say that the job is done.
What is galling about that, is that will be water on the Neo-cons mill, becourse they would claim that it was there idea all along, and see how well it turned out!!!

It also one of the slipperiest pitfalls the Democrats can get into, which is why so many donkeys has kept their trap shut. they simply can't win by *just* demanding that the troops should get home no matter what, even some of the more intellectually challenged individuals out there in voter land would hear the alarm bells ringing when it comes to leave Iraq before we thinkthe country is ready to take care of it self.

If anybody in here have a good idea to solve this conundrum, i am sure that DNC would be happy to hear it.

90 days notice of intent to withdraw all military forces and a 90 days program of
withdrawl of all military forces (except what is needed to protect our diplimatic
mission there) is the best we could hope for.

Even in the US which is one of the better nation states in the world, the great majority of the people here don't seem to be able to take care of themself very
well and we don't have an occupying army to cope with. The notion that we should keep an occupying force in Iraq until the diverse groups of people can take care of themselves is beyond my comprehension--when the evidence is so clear that
the very presence of an occupying force is the major reason the situation there deterrioates more each day that passes.

That's why I didn't want us to go to war to begin with. I knew that to do "right by the Iraqis" we would need to be there for a long time-how long I didn't know, but a long time nontheless. And that's fine if that's what the American people signed up for when Congress gave Bush the nod to invade Iraq. But that's not what was put on the table by Bush and Rumsfeld. "Shock and awe", "flowers of welcome stewn at our feet" . That was the scenario presented to Americans. Get rid of Saddam and his WMD, the Iraqis will take over from there. A fairytale at its best, a lie at its worst.

"We CAN'T leave - WE have to DO THIS..." blink.gif (ASK A MOTHER - WHO'S "WE" KEMO SABE???")

Here's Mom's Argument #101:
Well, there you are - inna mudpit moment again. Now - STEP OUT OF THE PIT. There. Now, DON'T GO MESSING WITH THAT PACK AGAIN.

THESE ARE ADULT MEN - if they HAVEN'T gotten their acts together IN A YEAR OF SCHMOOOZING IN SOME NICELY APPOINTED DIGS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON AND THE FOOD AND FLOWERS POIFECT......YOU are NOT going to make a damn bit of difference.

Take your ball and go home. IF they want to play, THEY CAN FIND THEIR OWN BALL.

Cut the losses and do a Bremer - jump on that KC still in yer armyboots and your french-laundered shirt still intact.

IF THERE IS A CIVIL WAR, THE IRAQIS HAVE ONLY THEMSELVES TO BLAME AT THIS TIME.

Oh, if it were soooooo simple. If we pull out of Iraq prematurely, we'll be tossing all the lives and limbs that have been lost into the toilet, and we'll be MUCH worse off. Once again, the enemies of America will be able to claim a political victory that they could NOT have won militarily. The Sunnis will be slaughtered by the Kurds and the Shiites, Turkey will probably invade from the north, Iran will invade from the east into the south, and Syria will invade from the west into central Iraq. MILLIONS will die. BAD idea.

BTW, so far no time travellers have come back and split my tongue. So you have to conclude that either time travel hasn't been invented in the future, or I'm telling the truth on EVERYTHING I've posted. woohoo.gif

Come on, no qualifiers about definative statements, or someone else saying something. Make the pledge. What's the worst that could happen? If you're lying your tongue will be split like a snake. Some people think that's cool and have it done on purpose.

From Sgt White's little corner of the globe:

Fighting a war is tough.....

Building a country is tough......

Finding people that can do either of these well is difficult......

Finding people that can do both is a rareity.........

Finding people that can do both at the same time well that's damn near impossible..

I love a challenge and I'm busy making the most of my year....

arguing over the war for me was over once we crossed the border it's a done deal so just "Get Er Done"

Watching people that have been used to sucking on Sadam's tit for the past 35 years have to learn quick how to make things work. Start a business, get a job it's a whole new world for many of these folks.

Some are trying; I love visiting the businesses when we are out in the 'ville. Up beat and making a go at things... from Bakeries to Auto Dealers..

There are always those hold outs that drag their feet and take up and reasoning why we are the infadels.....

I'm begining to think they are dragging their feet on a train that is just pulling out of the station... wait until the engine is stoked!

Setting up a Sister School program if any of you Educator types would be interested drop me a note through the board and I'll pass details along.

Times up, hope all are well Flydangler, Marine, Semper, Bammo, Cardinal and all....
Prayer's out for the Big Easy

Peace All
