OCTOBER: UPCOMING EVENTS FOR CONGRESSMAN DENNIS MOORE. Dennis' supporters in the KCMO area are, I am sure, invited; our meeting is on October 11 in Mission.

I'm very fortunate to have two Congressmen rather than just one: Dennis in Kansas and Cleaver in Missouri. Unfortunately, my interests are not represented in the U.S. Senate (my state has only Repub Senators) so I've had to adopt a Senator from another state, and my Adopt-a-Senator policy is going quite smoothly.

But I digress.

Moore to host series of meetings to explain Medicare RX drug benefit
Experts will outline plan options and staff booths to answer questions

(OVERLAND PARK, KAN.) -- Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District -- Kansas) will host a series of public meetings in October to help explain the new Medicare prescription drug plan. The forums will outline plan options and provide an opportunity to ask questions about the voluntary drug coverage for 43 million seniors and people with disabilities.

“I suggested an alternative bill which would give the Secretary of Health and Human Services the authority to negotiate lower pharmaceutical prices on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries, allowing seniors to utilize their market power to benefit from lower prices,” Moore said. “Now that Medicare prescription drug plan is the law, I am fully committed to educating seniors about the benefit.”

The panel will feature representatives from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Social Security Administration, and Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas (SHICK). The new prescription drug benefit begins January 1st, 2006. Beneficiaries are eligible to sign up for drug coverage plans from November 15, 2005 to May 15, 2006. If you don’t join by then, you may have to pay a higher premium.

Reservations are not needed to attend the meetings. For more information about the events, please contact Moore’s office at 913-383-2013.

For Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas

"Greater Kansas City Democracy for America will be teaming with Drinking Liberally for a Holiday Social on Wednesday, December 7 at Californos in Westport. For this combined event, GKCDFA has foregone its usual format of political lectures and activist training to celebrate the holiday. The evening’s festivities will begin at 5:30 with a “social hour” followed by a brief GKCDFA business meeting at 7:00 and a return to social activities shortly thereafter. We're asking anyone who can manage it to donate $5 for the cost of food.

"We hope all of you can make it."

(Christi Hoffman is in charge of this group and as I understand it she is also very involved with Moveon. Just some FYI from MC.)
