Congressman Dennis Moore (DEMOCRAT - KANSAS) is up for reelection again in 2006.

Republicans probably are a little afraid to waste tons of money again trying to defeat him and get that House seat into GOP hands. So far, no takers as far as Republican opposition.

The man who might oppose him, Republican Adam Taff, is having a leeetle trouble right now and is under investigation. Taff almost beat Dennis once. Things are looking good for Dennis and not so good for Adam Taff.

Dennis is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives.

Here are Dennis' listed priorities from his Congressional website. I'll post more about him when I have a chance. He is my Kansas hero. Plays a good guitar too.

My Priorities

Quality Public Schools :
When the No Child Left Behind Act was enacted, Congress and the President made a promise to our schools to provide resources to help them meet a new standard of excellence. The federal government’s refusal to fully fund NCLBA threatens to break this promise. It’s time to fulfill this commitment.

Affordable Prescription Drugs :
The Medicare prescription drug bill enacted into law in December 2003, which I opposed, is flawed and puts profits of special interests ahead of a real benefit for seniors. I will continue to work to correct the defects of this legislation to give seniors the prescription drug benefit they deserve.

Honoring Our Military Personnel :
I'm concerned that we are not doing all that we can to help the families of those who lost their lives serving our county. I have introduced legislation to increase the military death gratuity from $12,000 to $100,000 and would be applied retroactively to all servicemen and women on active duty who have died since September 11, 2001.

Well isn't this just embarrassing. One day after I post this topic -- Dennis Moore vs. ??? -- I get this letter from the Moore campaign. It seems to be Dennis Moore vs. Maynard Ahner now, with other opponents possibly to follow.

WE HAVE AN OPPONENT
September 30, 2005

Dear K,

Our first opponent has announced, and others will likely follow suit. Maynard (Chuck) Ahner will be doing his best to end the moderate, common-sense representation of this district.

Maynard Ahner ran two unsuccessful attempts to win a position on the Blue Valley School Board. These two campaigns have helped to build his name recognition and increase his contributor base.

In a recent email that his campaign sent out, Maynard Ahner says his campaign “will register a six-digit campaign total for the current quarter.” If he can indeed raise $100,000 from individuals in his first quarter, we will need to take him seriously. But even if he has to fund his own campaign, he can be expected to organize and mobilize his base and get them out to vote.

So, just as we have done over the past 8 years, we have to raise enough money to effectively get our moderate voice of reason to the people of the Third District. And once again, I need your help to do that.

A contribution from you of $250, $100, $50 or whatever you can afford will help prepare our campaign to deliver that message when the time comes.

I’m so proud to represent you in Congress. Your past support financially and at the polls shows me that you agree with our efforts to make our piece of Kansas a great place to live, work, play and raise a family. But, there is still a great deal to do. And your continued financial support will make those things possible.

Thank you again for all you’ve done.

Very truly yours,

Dennis Moore
