National Catholic Reporter Vatican laison John Allen says Pope gave Communion to Pro-Choice Politician
Go to NPR's website and listen to Fresh Air's broadcast on July 19, 2004 with John Allen correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter. Listen to the whole thing or just minutes 5-15 with real player to hear how the Pope John Paul gave Communion in 2000 to Rome's Mayor Francisco Ratelli. Ratelli is a prominent Pro-choice politican. While not condoning abortion Ratelli supports a woman's right to choose "...like Kerry." Part of the interview eludes to the fact that the Pope is physically impaired, but still mentally alert. He is (was in July 2004) writing a book. He knew what he was doing when he gave Mayor Ratelli Communion.

Mr. Allen's job is to report Vatican information to Catholics in America. Evidently American Bishops are in step with a different drummer, or they've found a new sheperd in the White House. Catholics are not obligated to follow their Bishops, only their Pope.
