Howard Dean announced today that the DNC convention in '08 will take place on Aug 25-28 after the beijing olympics, location TBA after the 2006 midterm elections.
Chuck Schumer suggests that the convention be held in NYC but i think ti should be in a red state cause i think we can compete in a red state and win there as well.

Well THANK GOD they decided to hold it late. This would be the week
before Labor Day.
Again, thank God it is late.
This way they can wait and see what is nominated on the other side before picking a ticket.
And it has advantages money wise, as Kerry found out in those long weeks between the two.
If its in NY it will help Hillary.
Its better if its in a media center, it helps.

Why would we want it in NY? How about we put it in a red state? The last two conventions were held in horrible places... MA and CA? C'mon!

Well..if they have it in a Red State, then you see all Republican supporters standing in the background of Cable Network Coverage. You want "home court advantage". Having it in a Red Stare would be like playing in the series at the other team's stadium.
Excellent news that it will be late !
I vote for a purple state: Ohio, anyone ? Florida ?
Or, if feasible, how about New Orleans.
Boost the economy and have a backdrop which reminds everyone of the Repubs BIG failure.
So little input from the members
on where the convention should be held ?
I think it can be a very important decision....

Boost the economy and have a backdrop which reminds everyone of the Repubs BIG failure. New Orleans would be a great choice. Ohio, too. (Not so sure about FL).
But the location doesn't really matter all *that* much. (Although I would avoid a stereotypical place like MA or SF). What's more important is the images from inside the arena, rather than outside.
If it had to be a blue state, I'd go with a place like Detroit or Pittsburgh, for a symbolic re-connect with the American worker.
NYC has a big advantage as the center of the American media universe, but especially if Hillary looms as the nominee, I think elsewhere would be better.

Anaheim, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix and San Antonio.
Denver, Detroit, and New Orleans have been considered the favorites by some, but Anaheim and New York could probably make strong bids.

No Ohio city here. Too bad. CO is a key state, too, so I'd say any of the three so-called front-runners (Denver, Detroit, NO) would be a good pick.
San Antonio, with its Hispanic heritage, would be an interesting off-the-wall pick.
