Mr Murphy is my congressman. He is going to be on the local 11 PM news tonight. He wants all the sympathy he can get for his re-election. The news promo says he is fine.

This goes to show how dangerous Iraq still is; especially the "road of death" to the airport.

"Two Congressmen injured after vehicle flips in Iraq"

MACON, Ga. - A military vehicle carrying U.S. politicians overturned on the way to the Baghdad airport on Saturday and injured two members of Congress, said U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall.

Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pennsylvania, was airlifted to a military hospital in Germany for an MRI on his neck, Marshall told the Macon Telegraph. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Missouri, was sent to a Baghdad hospital, he said.

Marshall, a Georgia Democrat, said he was not hurt.

The congressional delegation was riding in a box-like vehicle that troops called the "ice cream truck" that streaked through the middle of the road to deter oncoming motorists, Marshall said.

Sorry they were hurt, but really........ do the troops need this additional burden of
members of Congress going over there just so they can claim they have seen things first hand ?
shifty.gif Most of them don't know jack about war and whether it is going well or not.. And they are not going to see what is really going on anyway. mad.gif CYA at taxpayers expense.

Rep Murphy is milking this event. He has been all over the news media. He is giving a live press conference now on the local Pittsburgh TV station.

He says we cannot pull out now.

Murphy's main project is his national electronic medical records system which has gone no-where in Congress.

Methinks Representative Ike Skelton (D-MO) travels to Iraq quite a bit, and talks to the troops on the front line every time. 'Twould seem he comes back with first hand knowledge and uses it to better the lot of those troops any way he can.

Congressman Skelton don't make bombastic speeches on the House floor, but if you watch him in committee meetin's he's always workin' quietly and conscientiously to get things done, eh? 'Twould seem he's respected by and listened to by Congress critters on both sides of the aisle.

Don't think he could get as much done for out troops if he didn't make these trips, some of which have put him in pretty dangerous situations. He's on my list of the good guys in Congress, wish more were like him!

Hey, if the Congressmen who are on the appropriate committees, etc., want to go over and do some searching around, I have no problem with that, as long as they do not further endanger our troops by acting like BMOCs. So, I applaud those who go to find out the truth. What I do not like is those who go just to fluff up their re-election resumes. I am glad to hear that Skelton is not one of these.
