Full Version: Bush's Union doesn't include Louisiana
Common Ground Common Sense > State & Local Information > Southern States > Louisiana
Indianhead
Louisiana newspapers this weekend are quoting La. leaders, saying that President Bush has: "turned his back", "kicked us in the teeth" and "dealt us a death blow" by not backing a hurricane recovery bill offered by Republican Congressman Richard Baker of Baton Rouge. In fact, the "death blow" comment came from the Republican Congressman who has voted with the administration 91% of the time.

But will we be mentioned in The State of the Union speech? Not according to
all the previews being offered hourly on cable TV news.

I would ask simply, humbly, please don't forget us. Understand, it could be you.

Indianhead, it is one more glaring example of the master plan at work. It doesn't suit their plans to do what must be done to restore Louisiana to its historic place in American society.

Let it flounder, hinder the recovery and return of its citizens, and once it reaches the point of no return the money will pour in and change the face of Louisiana forever. Big Brother to the rescue .. but only once the cleansing is complete. Its reprehensible, morally disgusting, and unforgivable but its happening. They need those ports. Its the people they see as dispensible.

My friend who is still waiting for her FEMA trailer says out of 14,000 requests in her area, only 5000 have been filled. How difficult is it to deliver trailers ? This elderly lady is still in a tent. And its happening because too many Americans are so willing to accept it because doing something about it isn't in their "me first" mindsets.

You don't want to hear it I know.

But it is and will be Bush's ethnic cleansing /redistricting of a town that was 50 -50 and is now 80-20 or 75-25.
It is being done on purpose. As is everything he does.

Divide and conquer.

So why is that Senator of yours refusing to support the filibuster?

You know the answer to that Jim. She is trying to help the people she represents in the only way she can. I may not like her recent stances but I do understand why she has taken them.

I believe she's said she doesn't want to tie the Senate up when there
are so many desperate issues needing attention. Personally I could disagree
with that position, but I have not lose my home and all assets. Had I
lost everything, as have more than a half-million of my fellow Louisianians,
I would probably agree with her. If you can...try to imagine the loss, not only of your clothes, home, car and job, but your credit- (when you default on a mortgage) and therefore any chance to get back into the game. I see people in that situation and they can't afford to debate posibilities of what a nominee may or may not do - they are desperate.

then she needs to quit and let someone come in who can do the job.

She could vote yes on the filibuster, then resign.

This is no lifetime occupation, (pun intended), and these people need to get that out of their head- it is not a continous re-elect committee.

I think if she stood up to the tyrant, in the long run, it would be better for your state and of course, the entire country

That's it in a nutshell. Bush and his gang of thugs have proven that they aren't going to help, esp when it's a member of the other party asking for the help.

OK, you'd kill your constituants to save them, that doesn't make people who disagree with you bad or wrong. Besides, read the reason GIVEN instead of the one you substituted, it blows your argument to hell.

I really like the idea that somebody put forth that the Democratic Senators stage a one-day only fillibuster, a la Jefferson Smith. No, they don't have the votes to keep it from being overturned, but what a stand to take, in any case, and what statements could be made along the way!

QUOTE
McAuliffe was serving as Commander of Division Artillery of the 101st Airborne Division when he parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. In December of 1944, due to the absence of General Maxwell D. Taylor, McAuliffe was forced to serve as acting Commander of the 101st Airborne Division and its attached troops during the siege of Bastogne. It was when they became surrounded and the Germans demanded their surrender that he sent back his now-famous reply to the German commander, General Heinrich von Luettwitz of the XLVIIth Armored Corps: "NUTS!". His forces were able to hold off the German siege until the 4th Armored Division was able to arrive to provide reinforcement. For his actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.
