Not only is the caliber much more effective than the little 5.56x45mm (6.8SPC is closer to .270 than .223), but I think the Barrett upper also uses a short-stroke gas piston system (like the XM8) instead of the M16 and AR-15 style direct gas impingement system. Makes the gun run a LOT cleaner by keeping powder residue out of the receiver.

the bigger calibre IS an improvement. however.... ever compared m16 inner legoland to ak?
oh, they DID say sth about some reliability.....
