Fly take it easy ---- Hope you feel better.

Some of you guys seem to catch a lot of colds.

Tip for future:  I used to catch about 3-4 colds +/- the flu each year.  Usually that included 2 bad ones - leading to prolonged bronchitis pneumonia etc.

I have had only 1 or 2 minor colds in the past three years since I have started using Cal-Stat and Purell alcohol-base hand gels.

Cal stat is only available in hospitals (I think) but Purell or store brand equivalent is in the drug stores.

I keep a little bottle in the car to use before and after errands/outings.

I use it all the time at work

This stuff really works; not to be confused with antibacterial soap.

The best thing to do is wash your hands with soap and water dry and then apply the Purell and leave it on.  It works fine if  you just put it on.
*

My family has had few serious colds since doing what you suggest...We use the Purell when we're in the car....and wash our hands frequently.....and when someone in my house does have a cold, I wipe down surfaces with a disinfectant wipe...seems to be helping.... I've been doing this for about eight years now, ever since my son and husband had serious cases of the flu in 1997..
my son was very sick for over two weeks and my hubby had double pneumonia...so, i'm very careful with the hygiene.....

Not really! I just started doin' them to keep things light and cheer Snuffy up whilst her young one's goin' to school so far away from her. Methinks she's havin' to spend lotsa time on the road to be closer to him, so just thought it might help a bit, eh?

Hi folks - Good Morning to you all.

Pegatha - Yep, count me as one of the weepy ones!

So what is the verdict on the frog...? Pie it is your call!

Where I work is flying in and inviting 500 people (VIPs who don't know any better then to gamble away huge sums of money on a regular basis) for Super Bowl. I'll be busy the next few days. Might miss Friday night chat, unless they over staff the floor. Good News is I have the day off for Superbowl Sunday. Told "them", I happily worked Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years...
With the boys, we always host a superbowl party. Presented my case (Must of been the look in my eyes or something) I'm off.

Cool. I really think it does make a difference-at least with respiratory viruses. I got pneumonia in 2000 and Norwalk virus in 2001. I've been pretty good since-a bad cold 18 mos ago.

The active ingredient in Purell is just old fashion rubbing alcohol in some kind of thin gel.

Amy -- you use a mac too?

Use a mac and purell and your safer from a lot of pesky viruses: computer and otherwise.

Hope no one around here got hit by the virus running around today!

Wife is recovering from her procedure last week - they looked around to see what they could see - and found: nothing. ermm.gif

She says that now that her surgical wounds aren't bothering her as much, she can still feel the pain that caused her to go under the knife in the first place. We are both thinking stress is a good cause of her problems. doh.gif

I do what I can, but when I tell her how I will help out by doing something, she doesn't like what I'll do and says she'll keep doing it. no2.gif I'm hoping she'll start going to the school gym once she's able to. She was a workoutaholic when she was in USAF - every day after work she went to do something. Since the kids - nothing. We've got nice facilities here at work that she can use for free. Just have to get her to go. Thinking about taking a minvacation to Green Bay without the kids in a few weeks (we get President's Day off for some reason). Maybe that will help her out too.

I have had success with the hand sanitizer stuff, too. Good place to use it: in the grocery store. Sick people have to go to the grocery, so I was told by a doctor years ago to wipe off the handle of the cart with a wipe thingy and get in and out of the store asap during cold & flu season.
Now our grocery chain has the wipes available near the carts, as you enter the store.

At any rate, Doc, hope you are feeling much better, very soon. And I hope MrsNoonan is back to her chipper self. wub.gif

Noonan, sounds like a nice weekend away would be a good break for MrsNoonan. There is this "thing" about mothers- we tend to put our kids first, no matter what, and in the process, neglect ourselves to varying degrees. Time to use the grandparents or whoever you have nearby for some R&R on a regular basis (it saved my sanity and I only had one child). She may need some "me" time. Grocery stores and germs...yuck! Kids coughing, snezzing....I run to another aisle when one of them gets near me.. laugh.gif Our store has the sanitizer wipes, too...but I bring my own in case they run out.....the other day in the market, a man, God bless him, looked and sounded like he was in his final hours.... he was seriously hacking away without covering his mouth.....of course he was standing right next to me.....I did an about face and scurried, not so subtley, to the opposite end of the store.....while the kids in grocery stores play dodge-em's with the carts I play dodge-ems with the germs....an example of how germ phobic I have become, at the height of the SARS scare, my husband went to London for 10 days...I suggested, that when he returned he should quarantine himself in a hotel until we were sure he was SARS free...or at least wear a mask on the plane(':roflmbo:')
He didn't do either.....and all turned out well.....if there is one verified case of a human with the bird flu in the U.S. I'm bringing out the surgical masks....my son will no doubt die from humiliation but better that than dying from the bird flu is the way I look at it..
I used to be normal before I became a mother.....now..well...what can I say? It's us or the germs, and I plan on winning this war..... laugh.gif wacko.gif

Where did winter go? Its in the 50s in the Berkshires. Global Warming I'd say. I came prepared for the deep freeze. I'm not complaining mind you. Have to get into the gym by 5:00 to see the womens team play first. Primarily to make sure I get a seat. The place is going to be packed, and the fire marshalls are going to limit the attendance to about 1500 people. My son asked me to lunch earlier. I'm confident he won't get any pt in this game. Stakes are too high unless there are extraordinary injuries. I've been told to sit with the parents and not in the kids section because things are going to get a tad out of hand, whatever that means.

AFTERGLOW HOW ABOUT THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"A Mustang's Hunting Dog"
A Mustang retired after 35 years and realized a lifelong dream of buying a bird-hunting estate in Alaska. He invited an old Admiral friend to visit for a week of pheasant shooting. The friend was in awe of the Mustang's new gun dog, "Chief". The dog could point, flush and retrieve with the very best.
The Admiral offered to buy the dog at any price. The Mustang declined, saying that Chief was the very best bird dog he had ever owned and that he couldn't part with him. Six months later the same Admiral returned for another week of hunting and was surprised to find the Mustang breaking in a new dog.
"What happened to Chief?" he asked.
"Had to shoot him," the Mustang replied. "Another old shipmate came to hunt with me and couldn't remember the dog's name. He kept calling him 'Master Chief.' After that, all the dog would do was sit on his butt and bark."
