Hi All...All of you back east, take care, you are getting some nasty weather.

Marine - I've enjoyed your posts about your new orchard. Reminds me of when I was a kid. My uncle had 1000's of acres of peach, cherry, almond and who knows what else...Also some onion fields and corn...Since there were 47 nieces and nephews to help out, guess who manned the fields and the fruit stand every summer? We loved it though. Although, that peach fuzz gets very itchy after handling peaches all day...Would have to run and jump in the pond clothes and all, just to get the peach fuzz off. Very happy memories. Would eat cherries till my teeth turned red!

Red Bird - How is that vacation planning coming?
Pie - When is the next camping trip?

Pegatha - any more discussions as to the possible "big relocation"?

Heart - ?

Sorry Snuffy - It seemed to was an excellent season though.

Everybody else - So whatcha doing?

Very, but methinks like all things 'twill pass. I'd hate to live and/or work in Boston though, they take a week or more to dig that place out after a storm, eh?

Hi all - I have been out shoveling snow and now my back hurts. Times like these make me wish my son were home - I'm too old for this - he can shovel. My golden retriever went crazy in the snow - rolling all over the place, eating it, diggin it up, frolicing in it. The other two just looked on. Had to get out and start the job because tomorrow I'm going to need an ice pick if I want to move any of it - it will freeze into ice tonight. Got about 10 inches at my house. Outer suburbs received anywhere from 10 - 16 inches. Westchester got 18, and its just now snowing up in Williamstown. Street got plowed - that's somewhat of a help, but really isn't when they push the snow into my driveway and I then have to remove three feet of it. Heavy lifting time.

he promised me he can transfer all my saved stuff, but he'll have to work on it later...he's doing some more clothes shopping with our son.....

Yes, it's great when our children reach the age they can do some serious shoveling like my son did this AM before he went out with my husband....
Be careful you don't do some serious injury to your back...isn't it the pits when the plows pile the snow at the bottom of the driveway.....geez, you would think they would have a big shovel thingy that could scoop it up and throw it in the back of their trucks....how thoughtless....really... rolleyes.gif

'Twould seem that's another reason our Katrina evacuees that're still here in little Rhody are surprised, eh? Here, as long as they've taken an accredited driver's ed classroom course (offered free through all the local schools and the two main public community colleges), they can get a learners permit on their 16th birthday and take the road test for a provisional license six months later. We got two licensed 16 year olds in our home now, my youngest daughter and Tran's oldest son.

'Course Tran now realizes just how high RI auto insurance rates are too, I already knew. That's why both are now workin', to pay their own auto insurance. 'Tis only 'bout $90 a month now, but if they're ever designated the primary driver of any of our vehicles it goes up even more.

teehee.gif Hi, Redbird. smile.gif

Trailerman keeps interrupting me, so I can't remember all the posts I just read here. Seems he forgot to put distilled water in the marine battery on his new toy. blink.gif Now, can anyone explain to me why I am 'not allowed' to buy distilled water for myself to drink, but the trailer battery has to have it ? That was just a vent- I really do not want to know....

Glad to see Sandra is busy with the boys. And the first few weeks of the teen driving thing is tense for sure- then you just have to put it out of your mind or you will go nuts. One good rule: no more than one friend in the car for the first couple of months.

Fly cleans and noonan & IH cook... :cupid:

Amy did you get my PM about the history of Bing ? It's in one of Livyjr's threads- Jefff made it.

Snuff- maybe an investment in one of those snow blower things would be wise. Of course, I have no idea whether that incurs the national debt or not- just concerned about you shoveling.

smile.gif Good luck to skillet.

And I forgot whatever else.... except joe posted some really funny cartoons in the cartoon thread.

QUOTE
Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Distilled water is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Studies validate the benefits of drinking distilled water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time). Fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value.

Distilled water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. The more distilled water a person drinks, the higher the body acidity becomes. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, "Distilled water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances with which it is in contact. Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic and even more aggressive. Many metals are dissolved by distilled water."

The most toxic commercial beverages that people consume (i.e. cola beverages and other soft drinks) are made from distilled water. Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine. The more mineral loss, the greater the risk for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases generally associated with premature aging.

Des -- I wouldn't worry too much about distilled water acidity. All the acidity is pretty well mitigated by other food intake and kidneys. Too much may not be too good for your choppers--esp if it is sugared soda.

Kind of discouraging to shovel the same snow again and again, eh ? But it seems you were smart to keep after it and not let it build up too much. I saw some pictures on TV where others were not as smart. Heck of a storm, esp with the winds and surges and all. I am glad it has passed.

Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife.
This was submitted by a guy who purchased his lovely
wife a "pocket taser" for their anniversary.

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol &
PawnShop that sparked my interest. The occasion was
our 22nd anniversary and I was looking for a little
something extra for my wife Toni. What I came across
was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The
effects of the taser were suppose to be short lived,
with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant,
allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety*WAY
TOO COOL!

Long story short, I bought the device and brought it
home. I loaded two triple-A batteries in the darn
thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was
disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed
the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at
the same time; I'd get the blue arch of electricity
darting back and forth between the prongs. Awesome!!!
Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Toni what
that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking
to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only
two triple-A batteries, right?!?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on
intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading
the directions and thinking that I really needed to
try this thing out on a flesh and blood moving target.
I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a
fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She
is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this
thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger,
I did want some assurance that it would work as
advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top
with my reading glasses perched delicately on the
bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, taser in
another. The directions said that a one-second burst
would shock and disorient your assailant; a
two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms
and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second
burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on
the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer
than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device
measuring about 5" long, less than ? inch in
circumference; pretty cute really and loaded with two
itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries thinking to myself, "no
possible way!"

What happened next is almost beyond description, but
I'll do my best*

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her
head cocked to one side as to say, "don't do it
master," reasoning that a one-second burst from such a
tiny little 'ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I
decided to give myself a one-second burst just for the
heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh,
pushed the button, and HOLY MOTHER, WEAPONS OF MASS
DESTRUCTION!!#*&^#$^#@@

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side
door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed
us both on the carpet, over and over and over again.
I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal
position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet,
both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found,
with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest
position, and tingling in my legs. The cat was
standing over me making meowing sounds I had never
heard before, licking my face, undoubtedly thinking
to herself, "do it again, do it again!"

Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself
with a taser, one note of caution: there is not such
thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself.
You will not let go of that thing until it is
dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about
on the floor. A three-second burst would be
considered conservative.

SON-OF-A-*that hurt like heck!!! A minute or so later
(I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at
that point), I collected my wits (what little I had
left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent
reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.
How did they get there???? My triceps, right thigh
and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt
like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom
lip weighed 88 lbs.

I'm still looking for my testicles. I'm offering a
significant reward for their safe return.

Still in shock,

Tommy

Snuff-  maybe an investment in one of those snow blower things would be wise.  Of course, I have no idea whether that incurs the national debt or not-  just concerned about you shoveling.

You know Pie, I have one except I loaned it to my next door neighbor who managed to burn out one of the ball bearings. And it was just a small electric one, not a big humongous one. The people who plowed my street really annoyed me because I wound up with a sizeable mound blocking my driveway and by the time I got to it, it was half ice. Snow melt today is not much because the temperature is below freezing. I'm told we will warm up later in the week - so a lot will melt then.

Some years ago, there were two guys I knew who got into a long running spat. One winter day, while one was at work, the other went to his place and proceeded to plug up the long driveway with as much snow as he could using the plow on his pickup. When the man returned from work and saw that, he figured out right away who must have done the dirty deed and went off to his house and beat him up.

Up here in the boonies, some days there isn't much to do but fill up people's driveways and then get beaten up for it.
