AFTERGLOW
Good Neighbors...

"Hello, is this the Sheriff's Office?"
"Yes,. What can I do for you?"

"I'm calling to report about my neighbor Virgil Smith. He is hiding marijuana inside his firewood!"
"Thank you very much for the call, sir."

The next day, the Sheriff's Deputies descend on Virgil's house.
They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave.

The phone rings at Virgil's house. "Hey, Virgil! This here's
Floyd. Did the Sheriff come?"
"Yeah!"
"Did they chop your firewood?"
"Yep."
"Happy Birthday, buddy!"

(Who says rednecks aren't real bright!)

Gosh, what a job catching up again on all the posts.
And what do I find?! Even Winston making blonde jokes now. thud.gif

Checked a few minutes ago and no one in chat. sad.gif But the first couple of pages o f this March thread were veeeeeery similar to chat. teehee.gif Was not able to do the links... using TeenPie's laptop, still in Tally in the trailer. MrPie is trying to sleep and I have a light on in an attempt to type...

BTW: yep, Teen & Mr were at the big FSU victory over Duke and were thrilled. They did not rush onto the court but Teen had never seen anything like that before and he loved watching it ! MrPie's best friend was in charge of the facility and was not too thrilled with all the bad press the court rush brought about, however.

How did Mardi Gras turn out- did not see much here on this thread and it is so hard to catch up to the whole board. Very strange to not be checking in every day...

Congrat to Doc on the river thingy... and skillet on the Sinatra thingy... and everyone for everything else that I cannot remember (not because it is not important but because I am very tired and my memory is so poor). tongue.gif

Buddy and I will be around this weekend- have computer and Trailerman is doing sporting events.

Oh, and Arlo was here this week and I did not even know it ! So was Garrison Kellior.

Top 12 reasons the vice president waited 18 hours to reveal he shot a 78 year-old man in the face.

12. Still looking for the bird at which he had aimed.

11. Hoping war with Iran would break-out and nobody would notice.

10. Didn't want to upstage Condi on "Meet the Press."

9. Sober enough to shoot, not sober enough to place a phone call.

8. With 50 to 80 units of bird shot in his face, it was difficult to know if the victim was Whittington or a terrorist.

7. Waiting for the story to get leaked, then demand an investigation of the so-called "Secret Service."

6. Ironically, Whittington was the designated "let's get our story straight" guy on the trip.

5. "Queer Eye" marathon on Bravo Saturday night.

4. Erasing Whittington's existence prior to the shooting proved more difficult than expected.

3. Incident occurred minutes after post office closed for the weekend.

2. Scope and type of wounds would reveal Cheney's sources and methods and leave him vulnerable to Al Quail-da.

1. He just didn't care.

Seein's I didn't even get up 'til 0430, and just got back from droppin' the kids off at work, and 'tis Sunday mornin' and all, methinks I ain't so surprised at the dearth of folks here. Just the same we'll post the question in a form methinks all can identify with.

Tran's oldest is thinkin' 'bout stayin' up here to finish high school. He's finishin' up his junior year and the charter school we got him in to has arranged for him to take a three course semester at Brown under a full scholorship durin' the summer break. He also seems to think he's learnin' more'n better up here than he would back in LA. Methinks there may also be a bit of a love interest involved.

'Tis fine with me, and so it looks like it'll happen. Actually, with the lack of progress in recoverin' from Katrina in that part of LA they're from, 'twouldn't surprise me if all the kids were stayin' with us through next year. Both parents and the dogs'll be goin' back down there soon enough to get their home and lives on track. Looks like they'll buy an RV to travel down and stay in while they over see the rebuildin', eh?

Will probably be gone most of the day whilst Tran and I go look at some RVs. Gonna go places like Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA to see some of 'em. Wish us luck.

Methinks the initial note in this thread was really meant for some here. Check it out!

Here's hopin' the weather's good where ever y'all are at, and that Red Bird, KT and the other RA denizens we ain't heard from in a while check in soon. Enjoy the day, be safe, stay well and remember to play nice!

Have a nice, relaxin' day!

Beautiful picture, Doc- I want to be there. smile.gif

Wonderful news about Tran and his kids. I hope that Tran has success in rebuilding- wow, tough road ahead. And it is wonderful that the kids can stay with you and finish school. Especially cool news about Brown- a foot in the door for college ? Good luck with the RV search- check the bluebook on them- (depreciation big time once they are used.)

Pop's clock is still off, huh ? pepsi.gif

Thanks for picture of youngster, -P. Wunder did the yoeman's work here at CGCS in the frantic search. If memory serves me, I think he pulled at least one all-nighter searching and posting at every available site on the web. Tomhye and IH were in on it, too. It is nice when all the web sites can pull together and work in unison on important matters.

MrPie and I are trying to decide whether to head home today. Seems FSU had a good day in track and baseball yesterday and he is out of sporting events to see here. And we got a note from TeenPie indicating that he is not managing the homefront with full acumen. Buddy is ready to roll- oops now MrPie says it is too late to start prep to leave. blink.gif Will check back to see how everyone if faring later... from wherever I am, whenever...

WELCOME HOME!

Good morning!

To offer a perspective to all those female and blonde jokes:

MEN

~ They say women talk too much.  If you have worked in Congress you know that the filibuster was invented by men.  ~Clare Booth Luce

~ If men can run the world, why can't they stop wearing neckties?  How intelligent is it to start the day by tying a little noose around your neck?  ~Linda Ellerbee

~ Can you imagine a world without men?  No crime and lots of happy fat women.  ~Attributed to both Marion Smith and Nicole Hollander

~ Women are never disarmed by compliments; men always are.  ~Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband, 1899

~ You [men] are not our protectors.... If you were, who would there be to protect us from?  ~Mary Edwards Walker

~ Men were made for war.  Without it they wandered greyly about, getting under the feet of the women, who were trying to organize the really important things of life.  ~Alice Thomas Ellis

~ If the world were a logical place, men would ride side saddle.  ~Rita MaeBrown

~ The old theory was "Marry an older man, because they're more mature."  But the new theory is:  "Men don't mature.  Marry a younger one."  ~Rita Rudner

~ Some men have a den in their home, while others just growl all over the house.  ~Author Unknown

~ What's the matter with you guys?  The sight of blonde hair knocks you three rungs down on the evolutionary ladder.  ~From the television show Civil Wars (
Pie's revenge!)

~ All men are not slimy warthogs.  Some men are silly giraffes, some woebegone puppies, some insecure frogs.  But if one is not careful, those slimy warthogs can ruin it for all the others.  ~Cynthia Heimel

~ A retired husband is often a wife's full-time job.  ~Ella Harris

~ There are much easier things in life than finding a good man.  Nailing Jell-O to a tree, for instance.  ~Author Unknown

~ All women become like their mothers.  That is their tragedy.  No man does.  That's his.  ~Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest, 1895

~Three wise men - are you serious?  ~Author Unknown

Children like this are why I'll fight for this country and embrace the
peace movement. I find no argument in this position.

I finished the ground preparation for my vegetable garden (40X40)
this weekend. Tomorrow I'll lime it (for Ph) and next weekend fertilize
it. I'm tired...turning ground with a shovel and tilling it with a
gas/2-cycle oil Troy-Built wore my ancient a*s*s out. I envy Marine
his tractor. There will be corn, tomatos, okra, bell peppers and
squash put in on the 25th...and God willing...and no hurricanes...
fresh veggies in August and September. Funny how a small patch
and a little work can produce so much. I'll turn on some of the
housing project too...as karma is part of an old hippie's making do.
We should labor for the micro as well as politic for the macro. dancing.gif

I got to see of the beauty of the old south today. MrPie, Buddy and I went for a long drive NE and E out of Tally. We were just south of the GA state line most of the time-
MrsIH country. The majestic live oaks with Spanish moss hanging from the limbs.... the Sugar Maples with red leaves still alive with their fire... the bright red clay of the Ga soil was just as brilliant as the Red Rocks out in Sedona, joe. We drove out on Miccosukee Road, an old Indian trail which is now a canopied road still ripe with beauty. This area, in the wee foothills, is just gorgeous.
