Peg, any dealer worth their salt can do a dealer trade in seconds to get you the car you want. They just have to pull it up on their computer. If they know you are a serious buyer and you refuse to buy from stock .. they'll do it before they lose a sale. They may not do it without a signed order but if they locate one on the computer and you put the order conditional on it being that exact vehicle written right on the order, it will be done.

As I explained to Vet, I currently have a dealership in LaGrange, Georgia who has a line on one in North Georgia. Should hear about this first thing in the morning. And I should have known that you would know this, with your background!

My biggest frustration right now is an inability to get leather. Apparently, they almost all have side airbags, now, which somehow makes the installation of leather impossible. Not sure why.

His songs are so much like he actually is. Remember, Canada is really much more small townish in most things, or at least used to be. Everyone knows someone who knows those who are known worldwide. I have a friend who dated Lightfoot many, many years ago. When they parted amicably he gave her his Cadillac as a parting gift, which her new guy was very happy about ! roflmbo.gif

And, when she needed a friend about 10 years later, Lightfoot was there in the blink of an eye.

It's been a few years but I doubt things have changed that much. Toyota builds cars with different packages, there's a good selection but they may not put together a package which has both side air bags and leather interior. Their packages are based on historical demand and sales records.

Plus , leather is an expensive add on and there may not be much demand for it on the model you are after.

PS speaking of Canadians As 12 yo's my friend and I went to a Bruins / Canadiens game at the Boston Garden. Bruins defenseman Ted Green pushed us out of the way when we tried to get his autograph. The person who told me that may very well have been shining me on. Betty's explanation seems more plausible.

My impression, and I don't mean to overgeneralize, is that car salespeople see the business very much as an "us vs. them" kind of thing. I remember a similar sort of phenomenon when I worked at a YMCA camp in Colorado. Everything we did was predicated on pleasing the people who came to stay at the camp. When I bought the Odessy van for my wife she got leather. Over all, if I had it to do over I would have got a Toyota van instead of the Honda. The Honda runs like a sports car but the mileage isn't that great. Lots of minor things on the Honda which don't seem to be well thought out either. The AC system is hard to control and the air vent placement is really poor. Road noise is bad in the Honda too, when we go to town the asphalt farm to market road sounds like the space shuttle taking off.

Car sales people have such a lousy reputation dating back so many years, and some do definitely deserve it, but not all, and they are defensive because of it. You have no idea how many of the customers approach salesmen with that attitude very visible and as a result it creates an adversarial situation and everybody loses.

Let me give you a real life example. I had a salesman come to me one night when I was covering for the Sales Manager whose wife was ill and he asked me to see his customer because he was getting nowhere with the man. I agreed, although sales were not my thing, I never ever worked as a salesperson. I only interacted with customers when there was a problem usually. Anyway to make a long story short .. the man came into my office. We talked, He was quite ignorant and argumentative so I said to him Sir, I will show you the factory invoice which shows exactly what the vehicle costs us. Now, I assume you will accept that we do have overheads to cover above that price so here's what I will do I will add on a reasonable markup and if you believe that is fair we can do business. If not, I will recommend other dealerships to you where you may feel you can get a better deal.( it was past closing time and I wanted to get out of there). He stood up, called me crooked and a liar and said he would never buy a car from such a dishonest person. I had been totally honest with him. I had shown him our actual invoice. He refused to believe anyone would do that. That is as true as it gets.

Sure. Talked to her on the phone a little while ago and she apoligized for not knocking and just walking into my house and waking me up. Told her that it was no big deal and that it's been over ten years since the last time something like that has happened to me. (edit: meaning a woman walking into my house unexpected after i had already crashed for the night)

What woke me up was Dawg barking which is something she has never done before in the house. I then heard the front door opening so i sat up on the coach and first thought it was someone who had a major problem with their furnace or boiler and they wanted me to work on it. People have walked into my house before without knocking or ringing the doorbell but not that late.

Doc is 100% correct. Expansion ruined the National Hockey League. I very rarely even watch any more and I don't even want to go to the games now. The calibre of the hockey played is not anything like it used to be.

How about Syl Apps granddaughter ? You won't remember him , he was from the 50's but he was Leaf captain for years and a very gentlemanly player and one of the all time stars.

I was one of those who really didn't think women should play hockey .. yeah, I know that's a no no , but I was a purist and felt hockey was a man's game. And that's from a woman who was the first to break the barrier against women in senior management in the Automobile business in Ontario so I should be ashamed of that attitude. I occasionally run into people who think they know whats wrong with their AC or heating system and how much it would cost to repair it but in reality, they have no clue. Most of the time I'm pretty patient with those types but in a few cases, I've told some to shut up and listen to what I'm telling them. roflmbo.gif You have no idea how many times I have wanted to do that but never did .

I was the arbitrator and had to always bite my tongue if there was a problem. Mind you, we had customers who bought cars from us repeatedly and who would show up at my office door with a Tim Horton's coffee for me when they brought their vehicles in for service.

When I had that serious surgery I received so many flowers from long time customers I felt like I was lying in a coffin in a funeral home. There were more than 60 bouquets ! The nurses were in hysterics they thought it was so funny. I finally felt so smothered that I had them distribute them all to other patients. I only kept the ones from my son.

Good morning everyone!
(or what ever 'tis where ever you is, eh?)

This mornin' we woke up to pretty warm weather for the night, and when the dogs and cats did their 0430 patrol of the back yard they found them squirrels wasn't gonna surrender so easily today, eh?

This resulted in

Methinks, in time, it'll get settled down though. At least I hope so.

There was a Marine deployed to Afghanistan. While he was there he received a letter from his girlfriend. In the letter she explained that she had slept with two guys while he had been gone and she wanted to break up AND she wants her picture back.

So the Marine does what any squared-away Marine would do. He went around to his buddies and collected all the unwanted photos of women he could find. He then mailed about 25 pictures to his girlfriend with the following note: I don't remember which one you are, please remove your picture and send the rest back!

Ok, Ok ... it's an old one but a good one!

My question for the day: Why do our aircraft carriers only make sharp turns to port? (for them that don't know, that means to the left)

Well, here's hopin' the weather's good where ever y'all are at and that Peg finds her car, eh? Enjoy the day, be safe, stay well and remember to play nice!

BTW, I can't find the dancin' hippos that used to get posted here. Anybody know where we found 'em?

Not really Brookie. About the only sport I ever really kept up with was baseball and that was between 5 & 10 years ago. MLB got me where I don't care anymore because my team, the Rangers, trade off any player who shows any inkling of talent.

When we moved back to Texas my wife lost me during the summer because I'd take any opportunity I could to go to a Ranger's game. that only lasted a couple of years because by the end of the second year they had a 100% turnover of players and I didn't know who was playing where.

I don't think I watched more than 3 or 4 innings of baseball last year. I just can't get interested when they trade off everybody I like.

I also kept up real close with women's basketball when daughter #1 was an upcoming star.
