I'd appreciate your comments.
Dear Senator Clinton:
My name is (Pegatha). I am a licensed psychologist in Auburn, Alabama.
I am writing to share some thoughts with you.
First, let me say that I'm a big fan of yours. I've watched you from afar for 20 years,
and grew to respect your integrity and just plain grit. It goes without saying that you've encountered incredible challenges and surmounted them with grace.
I have no idea whether or not you plan to run for president in 2008. A year ago, I hoped that you would, and planned to support you. Since that time, however, I have witnessed what has appeared to me to be attempts by you to pander to the "middle." A relatively minor such example would be your support of legislation to censure flag burning. Your refusal to rescind your vote in favor of the Iraq war is a major example, obviously, and is very disturbing to me.
Karl Rove is not the only one who is obsessed with you. I am a member of a web-forum called "Common Ground, Common Sense," http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/for...dex.php?act=idx
which is an off-shoot of the Kerry/Edwards campaign forum. We consist
of about 300 folks from all over the country who are representative of all shades of moderation and liberality. While, rationally we know that it's much too early to be seriously discussing it, nonetheless, we endlessly debate who would be our best choice to bring Democrats out of the doldrums and into the White House. Many are convinced that you already have the nomination wrapped up. However, a consensus has arisen that, should you receive the nomination, you will not win.
Sorry.
It is significant that, In the last couple of months, you have lost the support of both of my favorite liberal pundits, Molly Ivins and Arianna Huffington. If you don't have the support of women like these, how can you hope to win?
The reason I am writing is not to bash you, but to give you some advice, while I'm pretty sure that you'll never read it. I still think you'd make a fine president - perhaps the best. But first I think you need to retrench and re-think your approach. The people of New York seem to love and respect you. You're plenty young -
consider spending a few more years just being the best damn Senator that you can be - stop worrying about how your actions will "play" to the rest of America. You are at your best when you show your idealism and heart, not when you make choices that seem calculating and shrewd.
Whatever your choice, I wish you the very best.
Sincerely,
Pegatha, Ph.D.
