Support our troops, right?
MY idea of supporting our troops is to make sure that these young men & women who are ready to fight and die for our freedoms are only sent into harm's way when it's NECESSARY. not when a cabal of zealots like PNAC decides it's politically advantageous.
North Korea has nuclear technology, and missles capable of reaching California. Any serviceman/woman with family on the West Coast had more to fear from N. Korea than from Iraq. and yet we got 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' instead...
is the world better off without Saddam in power? sure, why not. but isn't the list a little bit longer than that? would the world be better off without Robert Mugabe in charge of Zimbabwe? without Kim Jung-Il in charge of N. Korea? without the murderous government in Khartoum in charge of Sudan? by NOT deposing these leaders, are we saying that we approve of them? that seems to be the logic behind the 'support the Iraq war or you're a Saddam apologist' argument.
i wonder what would've been the result if we'd polled the Iraqi people before the invasion, and asked them one question:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
given a choice between:
(a) having your hand chopped off by a Ba'athist, or
(b) having your home destroyed, some family members killed, and your entire country (except the Oil Ministry) bombed to hell & occupied by a foreign power,
which would you prefer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we went into Iraq for 4 reasons:
WMD
Saddam
Uday
Qusay
no WMD, and Saddam's out, Uday & Qusay are dead. why are we still there? we're not in Iraq because the 'insurgents' are attacking, the 'insurgents' are attacking because we're in Iraq. and as long as we're there, we, and anyone who's seen working with us, are targets.
