Subject: FW: School Answering Machine

>This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended!

This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School
(California) staff voted unanimously to record on their school
telephone answering machine.

This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students
and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and
missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents
who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades -
even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester
and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their classes.

This is the actual answering machine message for the school:

"Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your
school. In order to assist you in
connecting to the right staff
member, please listen to all the options before making a selection:

To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1

To make excuses for why your child did not do his work- Press 2

To complain about what we do - Press 3

To swear at staff members - Press 4

To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in
your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5

If you want us to raise your child - Press 6

If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7

To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8

To complain about bus transportation - Press 9

To complain about school lunches - Press 0

If you realize this is the real world and your child must be
accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class
work,
homework and that it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack
of effort: Hang up and have a nice day!

If you can read this - thank a teacher!

If you are reading it in English - thank a veteran!

There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything
you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it. The film
took
606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't
work.

They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent
weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they were ready
to change professions. The film cost six million dollars and took three
months to complete including full engineering of the sequence.

In addition, it's two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on
British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of
us in clover for a lifetime. However, it is fast becoming the most
downloaded advertisement in Internet history. Honda executives figure
the ad will soon pay for itself simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't
paying a dime to have you watch this commercial!). When the ad was
pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without
any hesitation - including the costs.

There are six and only six hand-made Accords in the world. To the horror
of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make the
film.

Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and
complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two cars. The voice-over is
Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked
it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten.

They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real.

Oh. and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the
windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing
their thing automatically as soon as they become wet. It looks a bit
weird in the commercial. Make sure your sound is on.

Congratulations bigtom!!!! FOR THE LAST RA POST...APRIL 2006 EDITION before we put it to bed!!!! tongue.gif

A new tradition, a new milestone! I don't recall us congratulating the last poster of the month, but I think I like it...

Thanks for missing my middle of the night mutterings folks..I confess, I was here last night..put my fingers to the keyboard and then yep, a moment in history folks..my fingers, hands and arms simply frozen..gasp..worse then losing the ability to speak. I was just too darned tired.

Not to worry, I am baacckk....Took the dog for a long walk in the woods. Kind of heals what ails don'tcha think? ws - I make up my grammer as I go! blink.gif

So instead of all the weighty topics... (is weighty a word?) Maybe I make up words too, ws!

Sorry off track again... ermm.gif

Instead of all the issues, thingys and global, national, state and local concerns that are troubling me..I come home from my walk with this question.....

Why do Doxies claws (nails) whatever, grow so long so fast???? Took out the clippers, which is a major ordeal with Bentley (my own lovely doxie as some of you know). As soon as he sees the expletive deleted things..the dance begins...the power, the race, the energy, the drama!!!!! We are done again..but I swear his nails grow at double of the rate of all my body hair and nails combined.
I should be so lucky to have nails like my dog.

My question is..is it because of their breed? I have had a variety of dogs in my lifetime..never have I had to do so much clipping. What, you want me to look it up on the internet myself??? I'm being lazy today. Inquiring minds want to know!

Now I'm going to ponder roll call. Probably should wait, but what the heck..

btw - Des - Checking in with "I'm still kicking" is NOT an acceptable response.

Will return..as always..

I'm gonna be gone for at least a while so if y'all still wanna see them pups first thing in the mornin' someone else'll have to take care of it.

Philosophical question, if we were smart enough to listen would we still be centrists? There aren't any centrist talking points, rallies or sound bites and those are what seem to drive the politica debate now.

bigtom - you may never, ever realize the impact of this statement. One by one, some of us came to "RA Original" and regained hope, found friendship, restored humor and really got to appreciate the differences of others. RA has been through several evolutions. We were moved around, shoved around.some were banned, some went silent in protest of the ban..but always..with Doc, Semperfi, Joe E and Marine in charge we regrouped, and continued on.

I, myself (don't correct me ws) after the news of a couple of hours ago..went and hit my bed...am not feeling none too good here. I realize Doc, like everyone else on this forum is a human being..and goodness knows I took my leave for long periods of time. But, really, I never thought my absence was all that important. I knew that the core of RA (the people) that is what counted, carried on day by day. even if I was not there..I wasn't that important. What was important was the spirit that I noticed on this thread..way back before most of you even realized what it was. What is/was/ will be important was the welcome, and come and chat, no matter who you are, how you can express yourself, and what you stand for when I inquired within.
Redbird can vouch for me here..cuz it was she and I and a very few others that interupted the flow of things (again in the original RA).

Thanks Joe E..for posting...you..for one..all the way to my water fairy avatar know me, and understand how I feel..btw - I will never, ever give up the avatar..because..if you research fairies..you will see how close it really is to me. But then again I know you know that.

Thank you Pegatha - I'll get my bearings back and understand your message..I have been much better with that these days, go figure?? and will update on Mr. Flowers and Mr. Shopping Challenged.

However, I must let you know..I stalk these forums in the dead of night, after all of you have gone to sleep. They ring hollow without you on your various threads, talking about your various topics. See it isn't that bad, because I know it is a temporary thing. You all wake up..and then I catch up. But knowing that Doc is MIA is almost too much to take. It was hard enough to accept with Gunny..I honestly don't think I ever accepted it, just tried to understand.

I'm gonna try to do some exploring...Pegatha, the thread you are referring to is going hit a sore spot. Jesus, Mary and Joseph...what the heck (yes dear mod's I said heck) when I want to spout off a stringful of expletive deleted's..which will get the post F***ing pulled...maybe I'll go visit the music thread. As somebody probably our favorite grouch in residence noted..it does bring one together..never as much as here. iamsmiling.gif

Terrorist Training Camps Open; Lockout Had Been Feared

Fallujah, Iraq – Despite a threatened lockout by al-Qaeda leadership, terrorist training camps opened last week, as scheduled.  Al-Qaeda leaders, including Osama bin Laden, had threatened to lock members of the terrorist union out of training camps unless the union agreed to re-enter contract negotiations.  The leadership demanded that the union agree to a salary cap, less profit sharing, and seven fewer virgins per martyr.  In the end, the union agreed to the salary cap and profit sharing demands, but would only give up two virgins per martyr.  The deal became final when leadership agreed to add a dental plan and “flex hours” for terrorists with young children.  Supreme Camp Commander, Mullah Odeh, told us that several young terrorists are on the verge of breakout years.  “Mustafa Atef and Sheikh Ahmed Atwah are having good camps so far.  They will push for more terrorizing time as the year goes on.”  Odeh then lamented on the difficult nature of the business.  “As soon as you find a good terrorist, he soon becomes a martyr, and you lose his services forever.  Then, only the bad ones remain…the ones who couldn’t terrorize their way out of a paper bag, like young Tony Ali-Mandarich.”  Commander Odeh said that the main focus of these camps will be the switch to a “3-4” hijacking formation that will be “more aggressive.”
