Tobin Sentenced: 10 Months

Submitted by Hilary Sargent on May 17, 2006 - 3:24pm.

Phone Jamming Co-conspirator James Tobin was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Concord, NH.

Jim Tobin, convicted phone jammer, was sentenced today to 10 months in prison (minimum security recommended); 2 years probation, and a $10,000 fine. Bail pending appeal was denied and Tobin is scheduled to report on June 23, 2006.

In court, Tobin refused to express responsibility or remorse for his crime, apologizing to his family and community, but not to the victims.

Tobin is one of four Republicans indicted so far in the phone jamming scandal. He is the third to face prison time. Chuck McGee, the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee in 2002, served 7 months in a maximum security prison for his role in the scheme. Allen Raymond, President of GOP Marketplace (the company hired by the New Hampshire Republican party), is currently serving a 3 month sentence. Raymond is set to be released from prison on May 31st.

Rove to Rescue Phone Jamming GOPers

By Paul Kiel - May 17, 2006, 10:54 AM

I love it when scandals converge.

As reported in today's Washington Post, the New Hampshire Republican State Committee has been so financially drained by legal bills piling up from defending its phone jamming that they have only a total of $733.60 in their state and federal accounts. What to do?

Call Karl Rove. On June 12th, Rove will be the "special guest" at the NHRSC's annual dinner. For those in the area, it'll cost you $100 a head to get into the Radisson to hear the possibly-then-indicted-Rove. But if you want to get an especially good look, you'll have to pay $250.

Proceeds will go to a worthy cause: Devine Millimet & Branch, the law firm defending the NHRSC against the Democrats' ongoing lawsuit. The bill is $85,535 and climbing.

Is this conviction a felony, to be on his record forever and ever??? Will he get to vote in 2008? Will he be allowed to hold public office?

What's good for the goose should be good for the gander. Especially considering the thousands of voters 'redacted' from the rolls because their names were "similar" to someone else's and still don't know if their votes will ever be counted again.
