smile.gif Here's our dog, "BlackJack" (better known as Buddy).
We adopted him in '96 and he has been a wonderful dog.

Here he is in a shirt tongue.gif - no, I do not normally dress him up. laugh.gif Vet's orders, as he had to undergo chemo and was licking his foreleg too much. And, yes, he has only one eye... thus his name, I guess.
(we did not change his name when we adopted him because he had too much else to learn)

I love her too much.

Pie,
Did the chemo take care of his illness? He must be better because he sure looks like a happy camper....love the shirt.... what a cutie.....wub.gif

Yes, he is one of only five dogs in the States documented to have survived that form of cancer. smile.gif He was a trooper through it all, too. What a great spirit he has !
We were very fortunate, we have a wonderful vet who customized the chems.

Finding a shirt for him was hilarious. He's a medium sized dog (overweight at about 68 lbs) and so we headed to Target to find a child's shirt for him. Looking at children's clothing and trying to figure out if it will fit your dog is one odd experience. tongue.gif We would hold up one size and deliberate and then another and another- the shirt he has on the photo has to be cut up by me in order to get it to fit.

He is a happy camper. The pictures above are a few years old, though. I will try to take a more recent photo of him and post it soon. He has grayed, right along with his "mother." happy.gif

Valerie and I just got a dog - Zoe (zoh-ee). We adopted her from the Humane Society on Sat.! She is 6 & 1/2 yrs old, a lab/collie mix and really a sweetheart! She has fit in very well and we keep discovering amazing things about her: She comes, heels, sits and stays on command and can play catch with a tennis ball like a major league infielder... line drives, pop flies she catches in the air and also, this is hilarious... she dribbles the ball - walking around the house bouncing and catching the ball. Outrageous!

We got very lucky with this one! Here is a pic of her in the shelter (left) and in the yard getting ready to catch the ball (right):

Nah, the dgg is just my initials.

Is Buddy all or part Belgian shepherd? Looks kind of like one. We like those and considered getting one before we picked the Great Pyrenees instead.

Have been showing Pyrs off and on since 1993. The current dog, Tony, has done the best, getting a number of group placements.

Have also shown a little in obedience, and my old dog, Trooper, earned a Rally Novice title.

Dog showing can be a fun activity, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart, or for folks who can't stand losing smile.gif
dggfwtx
Here's a photo of Tony in the Working Group at a show a couple of weeks ago. Pardon the photographer's name on the photo, but they are trying to sell the pic.

Pie
Pretty cool that your initials are dgg. tongue.gif
Buddy's heritage is unknown, like so many dogs adopted at the SPCA. But I watched the Westminster Dog Show one year and thought he might have some Belgian Sheperd in his mix.
He also has purplish spots on his tongue- I have been told that is a trait of Chows ? Buddy's personality is like that of a border collie- with a tad more spirit thrown in, though. tongue.gif

Your Pyrs are beautiful ! wub.gif

Chows have blue/purple tongues, but sometimes other breeds can have spots. So, he might have some chow in him, but not necessarily.

Belgian shepherds are neat dogs -- great working and obedience dogs. They are very bright, like Border Collies, but I don't think they're as busy. Probably more like a German shepherd.

I've often toyed with the idea of getting something like a Belgian or a GSD to do more obedience work. It would be nice to have a dog that likes to please, unlike a Pyr!!! (Let's just say that most Pyrs are obedience challenged.)

laugh.gif Truth be told, Buddy is not particularly obedient... especially if he has the chance to escape and run free. It is the joy of the neighborhood when he gets loose and runs and runs through yards ! doh.gif
Of course, he has also gone into the neighborhood's lake (really a large retention pond) where alligators have been seen and caught ! ohmy.gif He pulled this trick on me early yesterday morning when I had my night clothes on... so, he had a long romp while I took the time to put on some clothes. tongue.gif

OH dggfwtx -

Love the pictures. I had the most wonderful Pyr's in the world. Her name was Chloe. When my husband and I divorced and sold our property, I bought a mobile home. One of the most difficult things in the world for me was to realize I had to find a home for Chloe. Very good friends that had a ranch in Jackson, CA offered to take her. It has been over five years, but I cannot see a Great Pyrenees or a picture without sobbing my heart out. Yes obedience challenged, made up for with a heart of gold. Chloe is still guarding the lifestock at the ranch, still running the perimeter of the fields and is still a very regular reminder to me that sometimes the best love of all is to let go and do what is best for the other.

Thank you again for sharing your pictures.

I'm glad that Chloe is doing the job she was bred to do (Great Pyrenees are livestock guardians, i.e., they protect sheep and goats from predators like coyotes).

They aren't a breed for everybody. They're big, they bark a lot, they can be hardheaded, and they shed A TON.

But they are sweet-natured, laid-back, great with people, and they get under your skin. For most people, once you've had one, you are addicted to the breed.
dggfwtx
BTW, all the critters on here are just major cute: dogs (from tiny Rachel up to big Tony), cats and birds. And yes, I have birds, too, and they can be great, if challenging, pets.

kansasgirl..
You need to upload it to somewhere you can save images on line and post it from there. If you don't have that option I'll help you out if you like. I have lots of space on my web space. Email the file to me and I'll upload it to my site and then give you the url and you can post it here using the image function in the message window.

If you want to do this I'll PM you my email address.

But still worth keeping around Steve ! My daughter in law raises and boards horses as well as teaching dressage so horses are a big part of our family. At last count they owned 28 in addition to the boarders. She's a busy gal. My grandkids all ride and have since they could walk.

If you have a picture file on your 'puter you can right-click on the picture you want, and select 'Save Picture As," and it will send to your file.

This is our tri-color collie Radar. We picked him up a year ago tomorrow, Oct.1st from collie rescue. He was a year and a half old and had spent his entire life in a kennel. He was scared of people. He has made great progress. He now lives inside with us and has a big yard to run in. I am so glad we have him. I can't imagine life without a dog.

He is gorgeous wliberty! I love Collies, always have. We had them on the farm when I was a kid, purebred Scottish Collies. Very smart dogs. And a magnificent coat. But too much for me to handle at my age and they do need a large area to run free and although our yard is fairly large it has a pond and a lot of flower gardens which take up a lot of the available space. Give him a hug from me will you and wish him a Happy Anniversary?
