Good Morning !

I'll wait a while before letting the pups out to see if their owner shows up. The cold may be slowing him done this morning. If he doesn't appear by around 10 I'll take pity on the wee guys. Sure do hope he's ok.

in the meantime ..

Showing my age here but here's my offering to the Sunshine repertoire and it is for Joe

http://slimsplace.com/SunnySideOf_LesG.wma

ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET

Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worries on the doorstep
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

Can’t you hear the pitter-pat
And that happy tune is your step
Life can be complete
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade
But I’m not afraid...this rover's crossed over

If I never had a cent
I’d be rich as rockefeller
Gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade with them blues on parade
Now I’m not afraid... this rover has crossed over

Now if I never made one cent
I'll still be rich as rockefeller
There will be goldust at my feet
On the sunny
On the sunny, sunny side of the street

They sure are little cuties.. they really are anxious to start this month off .. they were outta here the minute I opened the gate !

Yeah, this must be Septemeber 1st. Just like every September 1st since I bought this farm my morning has been spent telling dove hunters to get the &*$^ of my land. My afternoon will be spent picking up beer bottles and cans.

For the life of me I can not figure out how someone thinks it's ok to crawl through someone's fence past a no hunting sign or no trespassing sign and the farmer don't mind.

I saw a story in a magazine how one farmer solved his problem with hunters trespassing on his farm. Up on the road he put up a sign reading "BIRD HUNTERS WELCOME.....Day hunting fee, $500 per day per gun......Just start shooting, we'll come down from the house to collect". I'd do it but some of the yuppie morons out of Dallas would probaley take me up on it.

'Tweren't the yuckies that delayed me, though I still feel like crap! My youngest was involved in a minor auto accident on her way to school and methinks one of the other ladies involved's gonna try and work it for a real big claim. No injuries and little if any damage to any of the three vehicles involved, in fact 'twas so unimpressive that the cop that stopped didn't even do a report, eh? 'Course now that everybody's gone from where it happened 'twould seem the lady that caused it by stoppin' for a green light went down to the police station to file a report indicatin' everyone else was to blame.

Guess I still got a bunch of catchin' up to do on the last RA thread, but 'twill have to wait. My honey do list is a callin', eh? Got trees to top and stuff before what remains of Ernesto hits here and puts stuff other than where it should go. Be back later.

These yahoos don't know what they are shooting 9/10s of the time. I ran off a guy this morning who had bagged his limit of barn swallows and didn't have a clue they weren't doves.

When I ran him off he was real proud he'd got so many. I just said I hoped he enjoyed dressing them out, they aren't much bigger than a sparrow.

My wife is scared to death one of them is going to shoot one of her beloved chickens. I do beleave if they did she might take a scalp, she has her Great Grandfather's tomahawk.

Maybe we'll try some WD40 on them, that is if it rained up there, otherwise the mosquistos, deerflys, and horseflys are nonexistant. Mr. Wonderful sprays the hornet's nest with WD40. He says it works - I don't know but they certainly are ravenous little beasts this year, simply being in the area with them is enough to irritate them. Maybe they are in the process of selecting a new queen, although I didn't think the ordinary worker hornets had any say in the selection.

If you're anywhere near their nest they tend to get agitated, I haven't found hornets to be particularly friendly under any circumstances. I much prefer mud daubers, they aren't aggressive at all.

Print a large photo of a dove...take a magic marker
(felt tip pen) and draw a shotgun under it's wing...
(or maybe an enlarged photo of Kerry with M-16)...
put a sign..."Beware of Armed Doves"...
don a paper-mache doves head and pack a 12-gauge
into the back field. The first city-boy that comes crashing
through the bush gets showered with 6-shot shot skyward
like we used to lob an M-79 round...try not to sh*t on yourself
laughing as they slice themselves on the barbed-wire in full retreat.

To Believe

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen, and dreams really do come true.
To believe is to see angels dancing among the clouds,
To know the wonder of a stardust sky and the wisdom of the man in the moon.
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child's eyes and the beauty of an aging hand,
For it is through their teachings we learn to love.

To believe is to find the strength and courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.
To believe is to know we are not alone,
That life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises are just waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach.
If only we believe.

And on that note I shall say goodnight dear people. Sleep well.

Hi everyone.. I actually slept in this morning which is a rarity for me. I am usually up before dawn.

I had to laugh when I went to turn on the coffee. I had the three cages in the kitchen so they would be readily available for cleaning this morning and I wouldn't have to carry them upstairs while still in a caffeine deprived state.

I cover the cages at night but always leave a few inches at the bottom uncovered to be sure they get sufficient air. Anyway to make this story short .. I walked in, went to the coffee pot to turn it on and glanced over at the cages.. there were seven little heads all stretching their necks to peer over the cage bases staring at me as if saying .. please, won't you let us see daylight ? Did you forget about us ? Not a peep out of any of them .. just those stares making me feel guilty. I cracked up even though I was barely awake. It looked so darn cute!

And now my next chore awaits despite the lousy weather .. the fish. I'm having a quick coffee and then I must brave the elements and go uncover them as the Heron will have given up and moved on by now, and clean both pumps before the winds reach forecast strength. Hopefully I shall return ! If I don't blow away carrying the covers to their daytime location. They are both 10 feet by 8 feet and make wonderful wind catchers. I may just sail over the neighbourhood !

Have a great day if I don't land safely! bigsmile.gif

The Human Kite has landed.. tongue.gif

The wind gusts died down and spoiled my flight! Its a really strange morning here. It is gusting up to fierce and then dying down to normal .. I picked a time which was relatively normal. Didn't plan it necessarily .. guess someone was watching over me.

I am sorry to hear your Mom's still in hospital Vet but that's the best place to be if they need to monitor her reactions to the meds. Her cold may be a factor too.

Now I am about to prove to all of you that I am certifiably insane. I care for 7 canaries with the ever present threat of more as the males are typically oversexed, we have 4 HUGE koi and 17 shibunkin(sp?) of normal size which are also my responsibility and now ... I am seriously considering buying a puppy. I have checked the Humane Society already but nothing is available other than very large dogs at the moment and I really want a wee one. I almost had a shih tzu several months ago but it fell through as the breeder reneged on a promise .. any ideas of a good type to get that won't knock over bird cages and create mayhem ? I know its probably a bad idea but I want something I can cuddle when my Petey leaves me which is looking like being in the near future. He's failing. I hate saying it but its reality. I am watching him very carefully because I do not want him suffering but so far its a gentle, quiet decline with no sign he is having discomfort. He's just reaching the end of his lifespan.

I know this sounds absolutely over the edge but when he goes I am having him cremated. Petey is staying with me until I go and then he goes with me. He was my companion and best friend long before Les was back in my life. He became much more than a canary. His personality and intelligence have been unbelievable. The bond is unbreakable.

This is almost a cliche, but what about a miniature poodle? They can be fierce, and smart, and loyal as hell. Also agree with Pie about mutts - especially terrier mutts. A Terrapoo? Best dog I ever had was that.

Love Jack Russells but know that's outta the question. My daughter in law made the huge mistake of buying two JR puppies last year... a male and a female.. they almost killed one another. She finally had to give one away after coming home and finding them ripped to pieces and still holding on. Neither would concede. My son's Jack Russell was the ring bearer at his wedding believe it or not and was adorable but he was the exception. They are fighters as a rule. They'd take on a lion if the situation demanded it.

NO poodles !! Large or small. That sounds mean but I have a real thing about them. They belong with Paris Hilton .. not me.

I'd love a Toy Manchester Terrier but there are no breeders around. I have checked. I had one as a kid and he was wonderful and smart as a whip!

Betty - I have had large dogs all my life until Bentley...He is a mini doxie...He is a sweetheart.  Very bright and gets on well with my two Sun Conures.  The birds take great pleasure in dive bombing him when they are out of their cage and Bentley takes it all in stride and remains quite gentle with them.  I often wonder what the three of them conspire to when I'm at work and teenmagic is away. tongue.gif

On Edit:

Teenmagic's first football game was last night....South Tahoe High vs Galena High...agonizing loss for ourside...47 - 0! blink.gif
