Now I realize that me story may be unique. I may be the only self employed Army reservist in the service. but I doubt it.
I am a self employed contractor; I do project management, and other consulting around technology related projects (websites, online marketing campaigns, software installations and such). It's not uncommon for people in my field to work as independents because a firms need for us goes away once the projects are done.
After serving my country for a year in Iraq. I knew there would be a period of time when I came back that finding new work would take a little time.
Since I had been employed by the Army on cative duty in a War zone I figured I'd be entitled to Unemployment Insurance while I found a new contract.
Wrong.....
I was forced to go to administrative hearing to fight for five weeks of unemployment. It wasn't the money so much as the prinicipal of the matter.
The Administrative judge was able to find some technicalities that would allow me benefits.
But the States and the Government should change the law for reservist that are self employed.
Thanks for listening.
