Good morning everyone!
(or what ever 'tis where ever you is, eh?)

Only 14 more days 'til Christmas, and only five days to Hanukkah, eh? 'Twould seem the holiday season's definitely upon us. Anybody know when Kwanzaa is?

Takin' them munchkins trout fishin' yesterday was tonic for the soul! Methinks the tiredness I felt when we got home last night was the good kind, but my batteries was so low I even had to bail out meetin' folks in that after hours joint after only a short time. Definitely feelin' better though!

And in this old lady's opinion you are a magnificent speciman of mankind.

Had to share these all with you....When I read them I didn't feel so bad..... doh.gif
Any time you feel dumb, don't worry. Check out the following excerpts from a "Wall Street Journal" article by Jim Carlton. Lots of people are dumber than you.

1. Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the many calls asking where the "Any" key is.

2. AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in.

3. Another Compaq technician received a call from a man complaining that the system wouldn't read word processing files from his old diskettes. After trouble-shooting for magnets and heat failed to diagnose the problem, it was found that the customer labeled the diskettes by rolling them into a typewriter to type on them.

4. Another AST customer was asked to send a copy of her defective diskettes. A few days later a letter arrived from the customer along with Xeroxed copies of the floppies.

5. A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The customer asked the tech to hold on, and was then heard putting the phone down, getting up and crossing the room to close the door to his room.

6. Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key.

7. Another Dell customer needed help setting up a new program, so a Dell tech suggested he go to the local Egghead. "Yeah, I got me a couple of friends," the customer replied. When told "Egghead" was a software store, the man said, "Oh, I thought you meant for me to find a couple of geeks."

8. Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually.

9. A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid". The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally.

10. An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring that the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse.

11. Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in, and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked "What power switch?"

12. True story from a Novell NetWire SysOp: Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?"

Tech: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?" Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?" Tech: "I'm sorry, but did you say a "cup holder"?" Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer." Tech: "Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped; it's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotion, like at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?" Caller: "It came with my computer, I don't know anything about a promotional. It just has '4X' on it."

At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because he couldn't stand it. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off the drive!

Time for some 'readhead' jokes...

A man doing market research knocked on a door and was greeted by a redhead with three small children running around at her feet.

He said, "I'm doing some research for Vaseline. Have you ever used the product?"

She said, "Yes. My husband and I use it all the time."

"And if you don't mind me asking, what do you use it for?"

"We use it for sex."

The researcher was a little taken aback.

He said, "Usually people lie to me and say that they use it on a child's bicycle chain or to help with a gate hinge. But, in fact, I know that most people do use it for sex. I admire you for your honesty. Since you've been frank so far, can you tell me exactly how you use it for sex?"

The redhead said, "I don't mind telling you at all. My husband and I put it on the door knob and it keeps the kids out."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A blonde suspects that her boyfriend is cheating on her, so she goes out and buys a gun. She goes to his apartment that same day, with the gun in hand. Sure enough, when she opens the door, she finds her boyfriend in the arms of a redhead. She points the gun at her boyfriend and stares him down for a moment.

Then, suddenly, she's overcome with grief, so she puts the gun up to the side her head. Her boyfriend screams, "Honey, don't do it..."

The blonde yells back, "Shut up! You're next!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night?
A redhead!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's safer: a redhead or a piranha?
The piranha. They only attack in schools.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you get a redhead's mood to change?
Wait 10 seconds

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you call a Redhead with an attitude?
Normal

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only two things are necessary to keep a redhead happy.
One is to let her think she is having her own way,
and the other is to let her have it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A young man marrying a redhead asked his father for some marital advice. The father said, "Just remind her who wears the pants in your family." The evening arrived, the new husband tossed his pants to his bride and said, "Here put these on." She did and said "I don't fit into these." "That's right!" he said, "and don't you forget who wears the pants in this family!"

With that she flipped him her panties and said, "Try these on." He looked at them and said, "I can't get into your panties!" She said, "That's right - and you won't until your attitude changes!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the Redhead Dating Motto?
The fastest way to a man's heart is through his ribcage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One morning while making breakfast, a man walked up to his redheaded wife and pinched her on her butt and said, "You know if you firmed this up we could get rid of your girdle."
While this was on the edge of intolerable, she thought herself better and replied with silence.

The next morning the man woke his redhead with a pinch on the breast and said, "You know if you firmed these up we could get rid of your bra."

This was beyond a silence response, so she rolled over and grabbed him by the penis. With a death grip in place she said, "You know if you firmed this up we could get rid of the postman, the gardener, the poolman, and your brother."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you know when a redhead has been using a computer?
There's a hammer embedded in the monitor

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An old man of ninety was sitting on a park bench crying.

A policeman noticed this and asked him why he was crying.

"Well," says the old fellow, "I just got married to a twenty-five year old redhead. Every morning she makes me a wonderful breakfast and then we make love. In the afternoon she makes me a wonderful lunch and then we make love. At dinner time she makes me a wonderful supper and then we make love."

The policeman looks at the old man and says, "You shouldn't be crying! You should be the happiest man in the world!"

So the old man says, "I know! I'm crying because I don't remember where I live!"

I have to admit, I have no idea what was going through my tiny mind when I wrote this. But I know I was joking.

A lot's been going on the last 24 hours. Yesterday morning, Young Peg called me to report that she was having chest pains with a radiating pain down her arm. Alarm bells went off immediately and I insisted that she go to her doctor. She put in a call, but didn't get a timely response, so she went ahead on to her local ER, thankfully. As soon as I learned that she was diagnosed with a partially collapsed lung, I jumped in the car and headed on up to B'ham. At first they were going to keep her, then they finally released her and we got to her apartment about 10:00 last night. I slept on her couch, and she seems to have been sleeping pretty well. She has a final at 8:30, then we'll go out for breakfast.

Yes, the results could have been much, much worse. Here's my concern. As the doc was reassuring her last night that she should eventually be just fine, he casually asked, "By the way, you weren't planning on any plane rides in the near future, were you?" Well, both our hearts fell out of our chests and down onto the floor. Seems that cabin pressure changes can be a risk factor for new or worsening episodes. As I've mentioned, she's supposed to be flying to LA on Friday. The doc went away to do some research. When he came back, he told her that he couldn't recommend that she go, but that, in fact, her risk factor seems to be low. So she's going. I don't really blame her, as she's been planning this trip for months, has some paying gigs in SoCal that she really needs, and she needs to start scouting for a place to live when she moves there in (approximately) May.

Doc? Brookie?

Sh-t! Peg this is a genuine real risk. If she only had a spontaneous pneumothorax there may not be any further problems but she really shouldn't fly. Even in a big pressurized plane lung pressures change. Pie has best suggestion. As a side benefit she can work on her laptop more comfortably on a train.

Please see PM.

And Brookie, it did appear to be very small (about the size of a fingertip), and maybe spontaneous. She's also on the rag, which they said could be a contributing factor (weird, that). She's a smoker, as well, which is the most likely cause of all.

Peg make her take the train.. Brookie is NOT an alarmist but he is practical. Tell her a train ride can give her time to properly rest and get her head in the right place for those upcoming gigs.

My problems can wait. Its Tuffy. Ran into problems yesterday when we went to the vet for check up and to have stitches removed from the dew claw removal. The neutering incision is fine and healed. He's too smart for his own good. He has the collar problem all sorted out to his own disadvantage. He's now on antibiotics and very lethargic and not eating very well but I still can't stop smelling the horrific odor that hit me when the vet took the bandage off his leg and foot !

The two problems don't even begin to compare Peg.Young Peg is the priority at the moment!

You guys are giving me credit for having way more influence than I have. If she decides to fly, then fly she will. I just have to give her reasonable alternatives. And I'm afraid that there may be a problem with the train route. Although the map makes it appear that it's all easy connections, when I plug in the departing and arriving stations, it appears that it doesn't go both ways. It's only giving me quotes for BHM to DC. Dear Pie, hopefully, is helping me check.

Good morning everyone!
(or what ever 'tis where ever you is, eh?)

Was kinda just finishin' up a project and headed this way anyway, but gotta page from someone that maybe I should get movin' faster, eh? Methinks it just shows that here in RA we got a thing goin' that some others haven't yet figured out.
QUOTE(Pegatha @ Dec 12 2006, 08:09 AM)
he told her that he couldn't recommend that she go, but that, in fact, her risk factor seems to be low
Not a whole lot to go on there, but methinks maybe a little more explanation of what usually happens in these cases'll help you folks figure what's best. IMHO knowin' as much 'bout what you're dealin' as possible with never hurts.

Sounds kinda like her partially collapsed lung mighta been what we call a spontaneous pneumothorax. Usually that happens when somethin', either a disease process, injury or irritation causes a blister (called a bleb) to form on the outer linin' of the lung, and some time later it breaks allowin' air to pass through the openin' at the bleb site. Whatever caused it mighta been so long ago that there ain't no way to be sure, but a good history'll often lead you towards a probable culprit, eh? Did they go through all this with you and or her? If so any conclusions?

We're only able to breath 'cause inside the chest cavity we got a partial vacuum. When the diaphragm muscle between the chest and abdomen expands it allows atmospheric air pressure to cause air to flow into the lungs. By the same token air in the lungs gets expelled when we contract the diaphragm.

The main reason flyin' at altitude might cause problems is cause atmospheric pressure, even in a pressurized cabin, is less than at ground level makin' everything hafta work harder. This could cause a healin', but not fully healed bleb site to rupture and she'd experience the same problem again.

IMHO the train's not a bad idea. Even then she should know if she experiences the same symptoms she should lay on the affected side to lessen the problem and get help, eh?

Hope this helps! Now I gotta go deal with another emergency, will hafta play catch up here later, but don't let it affect my reputation, eh? I'm still an evil man!

Well, here's hopin' the weather's great where ever y'all are at! Enjoy the day, be safe, stay well and remember to play nice!

Have a nice day!

And we tax the sh't out of 'em- they cost about $3.50 or so a pack. That in itself is a big deterrant. tongue.gif

I know that she wouldn't want to lose the money on her plane ticket...

Check with the airlines and see if they would give her a refund, based upon health reasons... thumbsup2.gif

Just a thought :sleigh:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter, Peg. It seems both of our young ladies are giving us more than we need right now.

Okay, emergencies in CT and MD now all taken care of, my brother in law's computer problem solved, pieces for the new DVD shelf my wife wants cut, and methinks now I can take a little while here. Let's see what I passed over or missed, eh?

He's now on antibiotics and very lethargic and not eating very well but I still can't stop smelling the horrific odor that hit me when the vet took the bandage off his leg and foot !
Methinks if there's an infection that'd be the main cause of the lethargy. Is your vet havin' you change bandages every day?

He's a pup, and methinks pups're usually strong. Just make sure he takes his antibiotics religiously, keep him close and comfy so's he'll stay rested, and watch to see that he is okay, eh?

That was a much clearer explanation than I got from the doc, although he might have done better with Young Peg before I got there.  Still exploring options.
Now methinks you see some of the reason folks often prefer to see a PA or NP rather than a real physician. Been my experience that a complete explanation of the cause and effect of a condition helps convince folks to do what they're supposed to if they really wanna get better.

One thing methinks I forgot to explain fully before is that the reason a lung collapses (almost never completely if there's no chest wall wound lettin' outside air into the chest cavity) is that the vacuum inside the chest decreases 'cause of leakage from the lung. Small openin's like the one you describe usually heal quickly and completely, but only if you let them. Folks not lettin' them heal right are prone to relapses much worse than the initial episode, and much tougher to get to heal.

If young Peg needs more convincin' explain stupidity on her part probably puts her in the hospital with a chest tube for a week or more. That might be what she needs to hear to get her attention, eh?

Please! Let's not be tryin' to ruin my reputation so close to the holidays, eh? Methinks it's taken me too long and lotsa work to have it frivolously pissed away.

Remember, Hannuka begins at sundown on Friday!

A sudden onset of dementia or insanity- or both...
I can relate to both, I think. Wanna hit of my Reminyl?

For you methinks tryin' to participate on that blog's gotta be considered the mother of all mood swings! What now, you gonna start faithfully listenin' to Rush?

That's only 'bout half what folks pay here in Little Rhody, but methinks we now got the highest cigarette taxes in the country. 'Course some of us find a way to get 'em cheaper, I pay 'bout $1.50 a pack now.

Added on edit: I see you down there Noonan - happy birthday!

Here are the before and after xrays of my daughter's ankle. Looks like she's been attacked by an Erector set. smile.gif

Doc?  Brookie?

Hey, Mom -Peg, bless you for being there for your Young -Peg. So many people (like me) are separated by too many miles to react and respond as you did.

My good thoughts and prayers are there for Yong -Peg, and I wish her a safe and fun journey...
