Seeing something like this really does make me wonder where we have gone wrong in America. How can we have produced so many people full of so much hatred?
Excellent question!
We saw a lot of the ugly spin being put forth as "fact" during the horrific presidential campaign just passed.
But let's look at our society to find out why the masses are such willing sponges. We live in a sound byte society where people are trained to have short attention spans. Commercial length has shortened to 15 seconds, and I believe I saw a ten second ad run just the other day. Have you noticed the trend by big businesses to offer a 30 or even 60 second commercial at the beginnig of the promotion, then show abbreviated versions later on? They know you remember the whole commercial when reminded by a shorter version - which saves them money and creative costs.
It also teaches the viewer to allow their overstressed brains to absorb what's offered once, then take it as truth proved each time a shorter, similar version is offered. People grab at a nebulous concept, then endorse it as truth whenever reinforcement is offered. This is the ultimate tool of disinformation.
The more disinformed people you have out there, the greater their sense of might making right. They feel comfortable being in the majority, and reject out of hand any opposition or threat to that group.
Of course, that's just my opinion.
