I couldn't either, although I had planned to do so. I saw many promos for it and, in light of the recent revelations of poor outpatient/follow-up/VA care,
I assumed that Woodward probably had better care than most of our troops. Wouldn't it be good if Woodward now devoted the rest of his life to being a advocate for those who have been wounded ? ABC could underwrite the costs. (I am not holding my breath)
It was wonderfully tragic, beautifully horrible, terribly loving. It stirred up so many contradictions of soul and spirt: you are overjoyed at the miracles these incredible doctors perform on an hourly basis, but then want to cry, scream, and kick some of the monsters sitting on the sidelines in the head a few too many times. I want to cry when I think of the lifetime some of these men and women are destined to live.
It was a well told narrative, and I'm glad that the wingnuts at ABC decided to air it, and that they will continue to do so. It is about time that Americans step out of their insular shells and start looking at this war as something beyond a $2.00 magnetic bumper sticker.
Kinda makes up a little bit (not much) for that tragic 9/11 Swiftboat hackjob they put on the air just before the November elections.
