The issues of his own care but the overwhelming stories of how care givers, Hospital staff at Bethesda and individuals who feel enough is not being reported on the number of casualties who live and the severity of their wounds.
They also talked about military neglect in not telling true numbers. Defense says injuries. 23,000 non fatal. The VA is reporting 200,000 thousand with multiple injuries. Why such a discrepancies is now being discussed.

closed head injuries that are not being treated by army. They are saying explosions rattle brains like shaken baby. These are undiagnosed brain injuries by military but ABC data obtained 10% by VA with Brain Injuries. Department of Defense are issuing gag orders do to cost and retention.
Dept of defense says its not released data for operational security reasons.

I could not bring myself to watch it.. and opted to cut up my credit cards instead. 24.98% interest is highway robbery any way you look at it. bye bye (not buy) Bank of America!

While thankfully I did not have an experience like Bob..

I have friends in various conditions of wellness based on the situations that they were confronted with... both physical and mental.

I wish all the fat cats in the corner offices were made to watch it....as they sneak through all the tax loopholes they craft for themselves.

I couldn't either, although I had planned to do so. I saw many promos for it and, in light of the recent revelations of poor outpatient/follow-up/VA care,
I assumed that Woodward probably had better care than most of our troops. Wouldn't it be good if Woodward now devoted the rest of his life to being a advocate for those who have been wounded ? ABC could underwrite the costs. (I am not holding my breath)

I watched part of it. The traumatic injury to his head was astounding. He had nothing but praise for the Army doctors and said if this had happened to him in the USA he'd be dead now.

It was wonderfully tragic, beautifully horrible, terribly loving. It stirred up so many contradictions of soul and spirt: you are overjoyed at the miracles these incredible doctors perform on an hourly basis, but then want to cry, scream, and kick some of the monsters sitting on the sidelines in the head a few too many times. I want to cry when I think of the lifetime some of these men and women are destined to live.

It was a well told narrative, and I'm glad that the wingnuts at ABC decided to air it, and that they will continue to do so. It is about time that Americans step out of their insular shells and start looking at this war as something beyond a $2.00 magnetic bumper sticker.

Kinda makes up a little bit (not much) for that tragic 9/11 Swiftboat hackjob they put on the air just before the November elections.

I hate those f'ing things.

If it takes a celeb getting hurt in a hummv to wake up people......... then they should have hosted the Oscar's in Baghdad. bring your kevlar and IBA and take a walk down the red carpet.

Bob's family established the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury to raise awareness about TBI, and to raise money to support organizations that help those suffering from TBI to receive the best care possible.

For all that's bad at Walter Reed the Navy's light is shining bright.

I'd go slow with all that. I was just listening to the hearings... and Walter Reed was receiving over a 90% approval rating while still being sub-standard. Of course they were dealing with about 500% more serious casualites than they were told to expect - and a lot of their money was being piped to Bethesda for expansion to close WR - against all the Generals recommendations.

Well, I wouldn't. I owe a Navy Doctor with the use of my right arm right now. I was laying on a guerny listening to a couple of Docs debating how high above the elbow they needed to amputate when the Orthopeadic surgeon stepped in and said we're going to save this Marine's arm. Let me tell you before he said that if I could a got up and run I would have.

People may think I speak from a position of inner-service rivalry but I got to say the Navy and Marines does a better job with the same resources than the Army or the Air Force with how they take care of their people. I probably have visited just about every military reservation east of the Mississippi River at one point of time during my 30 years and with out a doubt Army chow sucks and Air Force chow sucks.

Marines and Sailors may pick on each other but when it comes down to the nitty gritty I was proud to be part of the United States Naval Services.
