Good morning everyone!
(or what ever 'tis where ever you is, eh?)

What a day yesterday and the wee hours of this mornin've been. Seems like relatives all over the country had either medical or computer emergencies. Methinks some musta been psychic, waitin' 'til I'm involved in somethin' before they called, and the phone was goin' crazy!
QUOTE(Beamer @ Apr 28 2007, 06:18 PM) *
isn't the Girl Scouts more of a Protestant organization?
I don't think so, my troop here in Pawtucket meets in a convent, eh? Six of my ten girls in this troop are Catholic, since (after the big Boy Scout uproar a few years back) all scoutin' activities've been booted from local municipal buildings all our local troops meet in local religious facilities and more'n half are in Catholic churches or schools.

Today my troop in CT meets in a Navy community center in Groton, methinks the Navy ain't decided to be anti-scout. Close to half my scouts there're Catholic, eh?

Girl Scouts have many different religious programs and awards, not all Christian, and ain't dominated by any one of 'em.

Well, here's hopin' the weather's great where ever y'all are at! Enjoy the day, be safe, stay well and remember to play nice!

I think they chose the convent so they could announce meetings by saying "Get thee to the nunnery".

Well, I guess I was wrong about the Protestant thing. I also had the misperception that AA was a Protestant organization. I realize now it's full of Catholics! The only thing that I can think of that explains my previous thinking about AA and the Girl Scouts is that the Catholics are pretty elitist about who prays right, whose Bible is right, whose interpretation of God is right, and who goes to Heaven. Anything religious or spiritual that was not "officially Catholic" was somehow suspect. That's the way I was raised.

It's a drab day this morning, and rather cool. It's a good time for a hike, which is what I'm going to do.

Got to see a live Prairie Home Companion for the first time last night. It was so much fun! I highly recommend going, if GK ever comes anywhere near you. You Californians could see him in LA on June 8th.

More stuff to do for Girl Scouts this week. Methinks that and honey do lists're gonna keep me away from the water 'til the weekend. At least momma put her foot down and insisted we go squid fishin' Saturday night. Luckily the kids here been keepin' us well stocked with panfish and shad.

Howdy, howdy ! It is glorious to be home- except that the internet is not working. After over 2 hours on the phone last night ( mostly waiting to talk with a tech), nothing was accomplished- and I have to wait until Wednesday for tech to come out. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Probably some loose connection I cannot find, as they reset over modem remotely, twice.

The good news, the weeds are not too bad. biggrin.gif It is a dry time of the year here in FL, so things did not overgrow too much, either. The bottlebrush trees are blooming, the lilies, etc, etc.

Well, gtg. At a restaurant with wi-fi and it is time to go, as we are using a table (but not eating) and it is now lunchtime.

Hello Everyone!!!

I have been busy with the woodworking and painting. I've also determined that I have to find a full time job too, one that pays what an MBA earns.

I'm so glad you're okay Doc, and everyone else too. I was milling around for a month and feeling just horrible. It turns out I'm having those "hot flashes" and mood swings women get at about my age, but it seems I have it really bad.

The boys are turning into nice young men and everyone has been helpful.

Most of the time I've been home I've been on the computer job hunting, and when that isn't happening it seems everyone has a computer game they are in the middle of playing and they MUST have access to the computer. I am going to get my own computer as soon as I get my permenant job because this sharing has gotten out of hand.

I'll drop in again soon. Everyone stay wall

I knew about your sister, Tom. Is she showing any improvement? I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. Life sometimes seems too difficult to handle. I'm sure you have friends and family. Today started out gloomy, wet and dreary, eh? Methinks that might be the high point.

'Twould seem yesterday's May Day march in Providence mighta backfired a bit. Rather'n raisin' support for the "rights" of illegal aliens methinks it created a lot of negative feelin's 'bout the movement to make Providence a "sanctuary" city.

On a completely unrelated matter, it seems to be the season of the full moon. One of our visitors insisted on seeing two project managers who work in the building. Now the man was sweating, liberally, I might add, and the receptionist who normally is rock steady, began to sway just a little. Seems whatever project these guys are working on are cause of the voices he hears (in his head) and he wants them to shut down their radio transmitter. Not a heck of a lot to work with but you do wonder . . .

Any advice Doc?
Pegatha
I guess the significant detail was that he was a liberal sweater. You really don't have to worry unless he's a neo-con perspirer.

Got home Sunday evening, as I think I already posted earlier. Finally got internet back this afternoon ! Seems the line coming into the house was nicked and the modem, which belongs to the cable company was shot. So, we have a bare cable line thingy laying across the lawn now until a different cable guy comes to bury it under the sod. They will not let me put it in PVC or pipe, as I offered to do ... seems it makes it harder for them to get to the breaches in the line when a shovel hits it. Of course, if it was protected, I think that would be a rare occurrence... but who am I to make corporate decisions, eh ? stars smiliey.gif Also, the a/c stopped working this afternoon. We were very lucky to get a serviceman to come and a great one at that..
'twas the thermostat and it was under warrantee.

Still busy unpacking but did get the mounds of laundry done. Have not yet ventured out to do much in the yard- a snip here and there, pulled a few weeds. Will have to get into my summer routine of going out in the evenings again on a regular basis to shape things up around here. And Son comes home tomorrow ! Yep- finished his sophomore year in college already (with straight A's, I might add). He'll be working at The Apple Store all summer again.

I think you're right about the frustration tolerance - some have more than others. Typically, if I have an issue with someone or something, I take it up with that person if I really care about the relationship. If the relationship didn't mean anything to begin with, then it's not worth that person's time or mine to try and salvage anything from it. Sometimes it has nothing at all to do with me and everything to do with what's going on in that person's life.

It's like the Artesians. They appear in different forms to different people. Mine only come at night and they're dressed in black with pointy hats and high collars, tip toeing around and casting long shadows. You know I never asked anyone else what their Artesian's look like - but it might be interesting to compare them.

On a lighter note, spring has arrived and all is well.

I'm not sure if you're talking about RA or CGCS as a whole.

Yeah, I'm not sure what he is referring to either.

I don't know about RA, but my feelings toward CGCS have changed somewhat. When I first joined the Kerry forum, I was a lot more -- "idealistic," I think would be the right word. I was idealistic about him and had the idea that what I said on that forum might make a difference. In the end, what I said didn't matter. But, I met some very cool and interesting people, and I had it in my mind that I would put my effort, along with them, into creating a more progressive Democratic Party. But, the more I read about the Democrats, and the way things are in the political world, the more "realistic" I started to become.

Then, some of the cool and interesting CGCS people started hanging around less. There were fewer interesting discussions (for me, anyway). I hadn't been that into the social part of CGCS, so I started doing Chat and meeting some of the "regulars." For a while, that was a blast too. We had some really great, very heartfelt discussions, sometimes very late into the night. Then, Chat became unavailable on this forum, and we had to hold Chat over at Cardinal's place. It still maintained a lot of its "fun" feeling. But, some people stopped coming to Chat, some of the more fun people. Just a month or so ago I think we did have a record number of people in Chat though, so it seems like people are still wanting connection.

Now, there are fewer people on CGCS overall, or at least it seems that way. We all know where each other stands on things pretty much. We often have the same discussions over and over. Some people here got especially irritating over time. I've gotten more jaded about politics, and I don't have the passion about it that I did. At least I don't right now. I think the movement to make the Democratic Party more progressive is going to take a LONG TIME - maybe a decade - unless something really dramatic happens. I do think the netroots is speeding the process. As for the Republicans, the true citizen politician who is running for president doesn't have a chance against the corporate/media machine. Their Party has pretty much been taken over by monsters.

Anyway, that's a brief summary of where I'm at and how I got to this place. I just got back from yoga, and I am tired. I may feel differently tomorrow. Some discussions are still interesting to me. I have learned a lot from this place - A LOT!

Thank you for listening. biggrin.gif There's a full moon tonight.

This sort of photo inspired me in my choice of e-mail name.

Much the same here... day after day of heat- of course, we get the humidity, too. And the sun becomes one's enemy, in a sense. By September everyone is so grumpy and short-tempered that no one is fit to live with- hourly cursing becomes a way of life. roflmao.gif But I refuse to say the "h" word yet... got a month before contending with those fears (I hope).

No, not normal at all. I froze, just sat there until one of them finally said, they're not open right now. He didn't have to tell me twice but my escape was short lived, because when I drove around the building, that road was blocked by two more cars and more police with guns. Actually at that point, I didn't need any coffee because I was wide awake. Gently put the car in reverse, turned around and went nonchalantly on my way. I was running late this morning, guess maybe there was a reason for that.

I don't know if this is something you would be interested in trying, BUT... often when I'm feeling blue it helps to play "the blues." My favorite song to banish the blues is "Stormy Monday" on the Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East CD.

I couldn't find the song online, but here's a link to a Buddy Guy version on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FnGqs4pcHA. It's not nearly as good, in my opinion.

Anyway, I make sure the neighbors aren't home and I turn it up really loud and just GET INTO THE MUSIC, if you know what I mean - you know, DANCING! It helps if you have hair because during the guitar solos, you swing your hair around as you move your body. It might be advisable to wait until everyone is gone from the house. Otherwise, you could give the impression that you're a crazy dancing woman (or man) and are sort of out of control.

However, if you're still on the mend, this cure may not be advisable in your current condition.
