Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) "may have competition for the Democratic Senate nomination in 2008," reports the Gloucester Times. Defense attorney Edward O'Reilly "said yesterday he will formally announce his bid at this weekend's Democratic Party convention in Amherst."

"The former Gloucester city councilor and School Committee chairman said Kerry's vote to authorize force in Iraq in 2002 is one reason why he's running."

Ned Lamont whomped Joe Traitor Leiberman and served a warning shot that the revolution was starting.

That the complicient democrcats rushed and backed Traitor Joe, just meant the job is not easy to overthrow a despot from office.

Kerry of course is not Joe Lieberman. Joe has voted republican and always did.

But in 2008, people are angry and who knows what will happen.

Would love it if Mr. Edward O'Reilly would ask and keep asking John "What ever happened to the promise to not stop til each and every vote was counted" then chickencawked less than 12 hours later.

To belittle Mr. O'Reilly belittles the fact that 1000s and 1000s of times each decade, people get tossed from office.
Especially those pompus ones who don't listen to what the people are saying.
Each has their choice to make. Some listen. Some don't.
The more challengers to the system the better. Leads to more conversation. More public airing.

Bring it on.
No one was born in America with a lifetime ticket to the Senate, House, Presidency.
That is something one has to EARN each time they run.

(and Nancy Pelosi is going to find this out shortly).

Never liked Faux Lamont.

Joe did not always vote Republican. why do you lie? Joe had what rating from liberal groups all these years? On this war he has sided with Bush/Cheney and he is entitled to his opinions, but Lamont and co. are responsible for us maybe having one less vote in the Senate on certain issues....not relating to the war in Iraq.

Nice going Lamont...what a jerk that man was.

Yeah, don't even get me started on Ned "I sided with Republicans 80% of the time as a Greenwich city councilman" Lamont.

Lawyer bids to unseat Kerry in '08

QUOTE
A past supporter of Kerry's, O'Reilly was spurred to enter the race by continuing disappointment with the senator's 2002 vote to authorize military action in Iraq, a vote he said has led him to question Kerry's conviction and leadership.

"The John Kerry that I thought I knew was not the John Kerry that really existed at that point," O'Reilly said of the 2002 vote. "He weighed that vote based on his own personal political ambition, and that to me is unconscionable. When he did that, it really changed my view of John Kerry."

Originally siding with Howard Dean in the 2004 presidential race, O'Reilly later backed Kerry as the Democratic nominee but not with enthusiasm. "I saw how he did not stand on any convictions, or the beliefs of the Democratic Party. . . . I thought, 'I know I could do a better job than he is doing.' We need someone who is not afraid to stand up and say what he believes in."

How dare this guy actually run against the wonderful John Kerry? What is this, a democracy or something?

My sister and brother-in-law live in Gloucester.

When I was there about a month ago I asked about O'Reilly. They had heard about him, knew one of his ex-wives (I'm not sure if they said that he was divorced once or twice). They knew him as someone who has been a lawyer for people accused of drunk driving. But the fact that he was running for Kerry's Senate seat was news to them.

Now I don't care about his marital history (lots of politicians have checkered marital histories, including John Kerry and Jim Webb) or about him defending drunk drivers (my sister is a public defender, and has had her own share of what you might call unpopular defendants). The thing that struck me is that they knew about this guy, his career and some of his personal life, but not about his run against Kerry. And they are certainly relatively well-informed, and liberal Democrats besides.

So apparently he has yet to make much in the way of waves, if his run against Kerry isn't terribly well-known even in the town where he lives.

No, this is not news here in Mass. Most just assume that Kerry will get the nomination. Period.

There is movement on this issue. O'Reilly is using swiftboat material. I hear people will be putting up an O'Reilly site if his bid takes off.

Does anyone here have any current info or a unique take on the race and on O'Reilly?
