Yes, yes, yes

As the John Miles song says
Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
And in this world of sadness
My music gets (pulls)(sees) me through

Also covered by Dr. John as 'I Don't Wanna Know'

Don't want to know
by John Martyn -

I don't want to know about evil,
Only want to know about love;
I don't want to know about evil,
Only want to know about love.

Sometimes it gets so hard to listen,
Hard for me to use my eyes.
And all around the gold is glistening,
Making sure it keeps me down to size.

And I don't want to know about evil,
Only want to know about love;
I don't want to know one thing about evil,
Only want to know about love.

I'm waiting for the planes to tumble,
Waiting for the towns to fall.
I'm waiting for the cities to crumble,
Waiting till the sea a grow.

Yes it's getting hard to listen,
Hard for us to use our eyes.
'Cause all around that gold is glistening,
Making sure it keeps us hypnotized.

And I don't want to know about evil,
I only want to know about love;
I don't want to know about evil,
Only want to know about love.

I don't want to know anything about evil,
Only want to know about love;
I don't want to know about evil,
Only want to know about love.

Here's to the developers in Iowa City who demolished the farm house on Route 6 and built a print shop.
(That's me in the picture sitting on the front porch of what was once the farm house.)

Here's also to the folks who were involved with destroying Tumon Bay and building a tourist hot spot of high rise hotels on Guam.

They were once both paradise. Have any members here seen beautiful places they once knew turned into a parking lot?

Everyone who likes any type of music should join or look at the youtube / music/ video thread in the off-topic section
http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/for...showtopic=71334

It is sort of like, I guess an alternative RA section, and it was started by Noonan, 335 posts ago back in March

Almost no politics, just songs we think of or youtube videos we run into

And music styles from Edith Piaf and Dietrich,Jazz, to the loudest rock song and even a little Telly Savalas and Dr. Demento type novelty song, classical, world music (wundermaus has shown us
some incredible people including one from Hawaii who's song we have heard in the background of commercials for years, never knew the person doing it til maus showed it)

Anyone is welcome, it's a thread to sit back, relax, kick off your shoes/boots and almost like a little radio station

And, as it is only a conceptual music station, and one has to click to hear any of the songs, if you don't like a song it isn't blaring from the speakers at you

And add your top favorites, one ten hundred

Those who have gone to the site have made some great playlists of songs others never knew existed

So come in and like the oldies station in NY used to say (before they were cancelled) "Where all the Good Songs have Gone"...

call it W-CGCS or K-CGCS on your internet dial

John Denver
Placido Domingo

Perhaps Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaEj421RDv8

Funny how things John Denver believed in, are the same things we are calling out in vain for someone to say something, someone to lead, someone to do something about us
Funny how the world derided John Denver, almost the same way they derided Jimmy Carter all these years
The same people most likely
Funny how when they were recruiting for "We are the World", the people who wrote/produced that said NO to John Denver...said he was not worthy of the all-stars who were to be on that record
Funny how John Denver and Harry Chapin, two singers NOT in the rock and roll hall of fame, were doing things way before any other singer who later rode on their coattails
Amazing how John Denver felt so helpless that no radio station would play a new tune of his(let alone an old one)
Amazing how in 2007-the world is crying out for John Denver (even if they don't realize that is what the world needs now is Love and those that sing about things that matter.)

People always cringed when I told people I not only liked John Denver, but that I saw him in concert too and bought later cd's /lps of his

Now when I talk about John Denver to those old enough, they get a look in their eyes of longing...of wanting him back...

Too bad people didn't tell him before he took that last plane flight.

Too bad John didn't know there were people out there who loved him and wanted more.

John Denver was a master pilot (not a dumbo bumbler)...John Denver took a last trip around his home area before plunging into the ocean...
It was ruled a tragic accident

I personally think it was a broken heart

I miss John Denver, I miss his voice...I miss his inspiration

A little good news
(deep in the realm of Bush41/Reagan era)
#1 on the country charts the week of 9/11 back in 1983, if that is not a coincidence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqUUQElQ8kM
Just change a word or name or two, and NOTHING AT ALL HAS CHANGED

A LITTLE GOOD NEWS

I rolled out this morning
Kids had the mornin' news show on
Bryant Gumbel was talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon
Some senator was squawkin' 'bout the bad economy
It's gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy

There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story's one more than I can stand
Just once how I'd like to see the headline say
"Not much to print today, can't find nothin' bad to say", because

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

I'll come home this evenin'
I'll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
How I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair
And how we cleaned up the air, how everybody learned to care
Whoa, tell me

Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland, all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
FADE
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

Merle Haggard
Are the good times really over for good (Wish a buck was still silver)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip7vv89zk84
(note-when this was released, the record company forced Merle to add the final verse, saying the song was too, gosh darn depressing-but it is evident 20plus years later, the last line in this song is not going to happen)

I wish a buck was still silver and it was back when the country was strong.
Back before Elvis and before the Vietnam war came along.
Before the Beatles and yesterday when a man could still work and still would.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good ?

Are we rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell?
With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell?
I wish a Ford or a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good?

I wish Coke was still cola and a joint was a bad place to be.
It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV.
Before Microwave ovens when a girl could still cook, and still would.

Stop rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell.
Standup for the flag, and let's all ring the liberty bell.
Let's make a Ford and a Chevy that'll still last ten years like they should...
The best of the free life is still yet to come and the good times ain't really

Music is the one common ground out there, whether people realize it or not

Though I rarely participate directly, a lot of the social and political networks I've been in had
a big Music connection (also a slight preference for sensual and sexual stimulation), though I personally am a perfect gentleman. Music has its own special groove.

Always loved Dylan...and moreover, The Byrds doin' Dylan...my favorite:

MY BACK PAGES
The Byrds
Words and Music by Bob Dylan

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads

Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed

Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed

Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

[The next two verses were left out by The Byrds]
Girls' faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
A self-ordained professor's tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
"Equality," I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

[The Byrds pick it up here]
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led [Sisters fled] by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

I have a feeling that many. many soldiers
of my day knew this song, this life...music as life.

Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows that the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight is fixed
The poor stay poor and the rich get rich

Everybody knows that the boat is sinking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybodys got this broken feeling
Like their momma or there dog just died
Everybodys hands are in their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

Everybody knows that its now or never
Everybody knows that its me or you
Everybody knows that you live forever
When you had a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old black joe still pickin cotton
For ribbons and bows

Everybody knows you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you been faithful
Give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you been discrete
So many people you had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows

Perhaps honorable service for a less than perfect cause

Perhaps it is why we were drawn to John F. Kerry's cause.

I love y'all...truly do...and one day, one fine day...we will be together.
Or such is my faith, my rock...my reason to believe. Amazing Grace.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.
